I am most humbled.  Thank you all for all the encouragement and the very kind words.

I went with tape on the cowl as I wanted to utilize the clear part.  In the end it does look a bit off but not enough to distract.

Man Joe, that looks fantastic, you deserved the article and its was worth waiting for.  I guess I would like to ask why the clear plastic around the cowl to show the engine?   Where as the rest of the cut aways are open.

That is a fantastic model and a wonderful tribute to the men and women who were there on December 7, 1941 (the date that shall live in infamy). One of my father's cousins was on board the USS Arizona that day and is forever entombed in the ship. There is a wall in the memorial over the Arizona with the names of the 1177 men who were killed on that day. I go there periodically to pay my respects. Thank you again for your wonderful tribute. For me it is personal.

Congratulations!  Awesome job.  You know, I have family on the Ewa (Pronounced A-VAH) side of the island.  Some remember the chaos that morning!

My aunt was a little girl going to the play ground by her school.  One of the several buildings got bombed that day while she was playing in the park.  The school was rebuilt.  But only one building survived and til this day that building still stands.  I went to that school, and had classes in that same building.  The school is called Lunalilo Elementary School.

Thank you for the build in honoring that day, you've also honored not just the military side of that day, you've honored the civilians, my family that had to live through that fear and chaos on December 7.  Thank you.

Toshi

Marine Wildcat aka My 2016 Pearl Harbor Tribute
Posted by fightnjoe on Monday, January 2, 2017 9:06 PM

Please excuse the duplicate.  Just showing a final reveal.

Here we are.  2017.  A new year with new hopes and dreams.

It is time however to finish something off.

In July I began my annual tribute to those who died and to those who survived the attack on Hawaii, December 7, 1941.  Although it began much like the previous issues it ended a bit different.  In September I made contact with the editor of Military Modelling.  He was introduced to me by a mutual friend and was interested in my work.  I showed him my progress on the Wildcat and he asked me to go dark so that it could be published in the magazine.  I agreed.

The issue was published and went public in early December.  I waited til now to post anything public as I wanted to respect the wishes of the magazine.  Now with the newest edition of the magazine making its public debut very soon it is time.

A Marine Wildcat from Ewa.  The markings are from several sets and portray MAG-21 as they appear December 1941.  The specific aircraft however is very fictional, at least I am unable to verify the aircraft number existed.

And the glamour shots.

Thanks to all who followed this build.  This particular build is very important to me each year and the fact it made publication as part of a tribute edition made it so much more special.

All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.
