Hi Mike,

i have a small model room, but the shelves are getting filled. I have a 1:200 Arizona and 1:72 Snowberry to build to add to my 1:72 u boat which will take up all my available space Super Angry

Make sure the surface is glossy. I used Mig dark wash, and with a fine brush let it flow into all the groves and rivet detail, let it dry and wipe it off. I also did pre shade the panels and rivet lines. I used burnt umber for the oil streaks- placed a few dots at the point of leaking, then streaked it with a brush damp with mineral spirits.

I think it looks terrific. Could you inform as to the bottom wash technique, it looks really good? Did you preshade or is that just a wash? My build of this kit is on here somewhere, built as Spitfire 6915 in the Imperial War Museum. I wish my bottom wash looked more like yours. Nice cockpit work as well.

Looks great, Rob. I've gone to great lengths to be rid of the decal monster, it seems to be the area that we have the least control over when we can only use existing decals.

I am busy with the same kit and I agree that it really fiddly, on my kit the wingroot fit on the right side and on the bottom of the stabs are just BAD.

My decals look OK on the backing paper, only time will tell of they are in register.

You did a real nice job of this kit, what paints did you use?

Thanks for all of the great comments. I couldn't take it to Heritage Con- too many chips out of the decals, and it's missing the port side Canadian decal, so it's incomplete. I was considering buying a new set of decals, but I couldn't justify an extra $30 for one decal. This seems to be par for the course on my models-some things turn out really well, and other aspects turn out really poorly.

Revel 1/32 Spitfire Mk II

Hello everyone,

I have just finished my spit and it was a struggle. This kit was better than other Revell kits I have made, especially after coming off of the older 1/32 Bf 110. It wasn't so much as a kit problem than me and other factors. It mostly went together well, some parts were really fiddly like much of the cockpit, and the landing gear, but the decals were crap. All of the rondels were out of register with a nice white ring around them. I ended up getting some after market decals from Techmod off of E-bay, and these were worse. Almost all fragmented while applying, and wouldn't seat into the detail well. I applied about 15 separate coats of Micro Sol, and they still wouldn't seat into the detail, even with gentle encouragement. I had coated the decals with 3 coats of Future, and one of the "1st Canadian" decals came off at some point and was a loss and I also lost bits off of other ones, which mostly I was lucky to put the fragments back down with more Future . I also kept breaking the landing gear and other parts. I made this OOB except scratch built cockpit details. I was glad to be done with this.
