If you do not already have the Lindberg kit, I suggest you look for the Revell USS Lexington instead. You will have less modifications to do. Or one of the multiple other releases that Revell did of the same molds with different decals and aircraft.

The carriers at that time generally would have A-7, F-4 Phantoms, A-1 Skyraiders (propeller plane), and A-4 Skyhawks as well as a few others such as the Skywarrior, Vigilanty, Hawkeye, etc. I'm not a ship person so I do not know where you will find those aircraft models in the scale you want. Does your dad have a "cruise" book from his days on the carrier. Those usually have pictures of the various aircraft on board the ship at that time.

Unfortunately no my father doesn't have one of those books and couldn't think of a way to ask him since this is going to be a surprise

Hi Matt.  Try "Starfighter Decals" also known as Mark's Models.  He does a whole bunch of resin aircraft that would seem to apply to your carrier build.  They have great service, although these little airplanes are expensive!

Check them out:

Good luck and have fun

Tribute builds are a great idea. In fact, aircraft on CVT-16 could be a lot of different types 1968-1970. TA-4,

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Hello all.  Needing help with a project I'm about to embark on.  As a Father's day present, I plan to build and modify the Lindberg 1/525 scale USS Lexington.  The modifications that will be done to her will be to present her as she was in 1968-1970, the years my dad was on board.  Two different planes took off and landed.  Which were the A-7 Corsair II and a prop plane.  I am having trouble determining what prop plane was on board and having extreme difficulty locating the scale size A-7 Corsair that will be needed.

Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Matt
