Junkers Ju 87R-2 Trop Stuka 1/72

Here is Stuka number 4 of my Stuka-project! 3 more to go...

Junkers Ju 87R-2 Trop

Stab/St.G.3

Bir Dufan, Libya, February-March 1941

(Revell 04620)

And finally the only existing pic of the real plane:

In the instruction Revell has it that this Stuka was part of 3.St.G.1, but that is not correct. While in search for pics and information about this plane and its unit I discovered that the code should have read L1+_

I then discovered that the code 2F+CA belonged to Stab/St.G.3 that was formed in France in July 1940 which was placed under the command of K.G. 28 The Stab unit was heavily involved in the Battle of Britain. In December the order came for the Gruppe to fly over to Trapani in Sicily for attacks on Malta, the Royal Navy (carrier Illustrious!) and Allied convoys. After a short vacation and refit in Germany they arrived early January in Trapani and were placed under the command of X. Fliegerkorps.

On Februari 28 they were ordered to fly to Libya with 2 other Gruppen, probably in Bir Dufan, south-east of Tripoli. Their main task was ground support for the troops of the Afrika Korps and the Italian army. In the meantime their Stammzeichen (code) had been changed into S7+_A

Thanks for looking.

Thank you guys.

This Revell/ex-Italeri kit has a lot of issues, and I would not recommend it: http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=294&t=50310&hilit=04620#p759381

It took me a lot of work to correct the inssues. E.g. I substituted the silly fuel tanks for a pair from the new Airfix Stuka, which are near perfect.

Personal I prefer the Fujimi kits in this scale.

Thanks. I have one of these in my Stuka stash and am debating about swapping it for one of the new Airfix B-2 kits out soon. Might be worth it as i will be getting at least one of the new Airfix kits anyway to fill a couple of gaps. I just hope the new Airfix kit comes with the Trop filter.

Currently building the Fujimi kit along with a couple of other Stuka's and ye, it is rather nice.

Hi Bish,

The new Airfix Stuka is a B-1 version and has as for as I can see no TROP filter. If you want to make a B-2 of it the only thing you have to do is replacing teh exhaust by resin exhausts from Quickboost.

I love the Fujimi kits. They are not totally correct (e.g. the bottom window for the pilot is not there), but they are well detailed and very good kits for their age,

I bought another B-2 and will make an unarmed trainerversion of it of the Hungarian Air Force. Still looking for a Fujimi Dora D-1 to make a Roumanian D-3.

Cheers,

Jan

Airfix are about to release a new B-2 in 72nd as well. I already have the B-1 but didn't realise it had the drop tanks, thats handy.

Did that Revell kit hav ethe pilots target window. I know the Academy kit doesn't have it either, but then it did have an external cover which the pilot could open and close and i would imagine wouold normally be closed on the ground.

IMHO, the Academy kits are the best ones on the market. Excellent detail and they are correct in dimensions, the Fujimi are slightly to big. Its just a shame they never released any D kits, though it could be converted if you can get the bomb racks. You could also try the Fujimi G-1, i am sure thats all you need to make a D-3, though i would have to check to be certain.

Thank you kindly for the information. I will lookout for Academy Stukas.

The revell kit has an opening in the bottom right behind the engine, but a transparent piece to put inthere is not present.

Thanks. I think i will get the new Airfix kit when it comes out and then compare it to the revell one and decide if i was to change it for another Airfix one. In this thread i am doing an Academy G-2 along with a Fujimi R-2 and D-5. Might give you some idea.

I still need to get a couple of the Fujimi D's as i have a couple of gaps there, but not easy to find.

O, and if you want to do a very early one and don't mind limited run kits, check out the Special Hobby A kits.
