Pawel!

Looks great. Really nice details and clean execution. It doesn't look 1/72 at all... Dig.

cheers

Hello! Thank you for your kind words! Scalemates say this kit dates back to 1992 - if they wanted they could have gotten in touch by the real thing by then, but it's early. Plus the internet wasn't really operational by then...

It sure is a big chopper - it's comparable in size to the F-4 Phantom, that should give you an idea. It's a direct relative to the Mi-8 transport helicopter, and that can take a car onboard, so you get the idea.

Thanks for your comment and have a nice day

Oh wow sharp work there! Love the camo! Got to be a big model even in 1/72nd, I've never seen one in person but I understand the Mil-24 is big friggin' chopper.

And does this kit date back to the old days of USSR? Just wondering if the inaccurate stuff is from lack of information back then or just sloppy design?

Pawel, this is a really nicely done model, especially in that scale. The paint and camo is great, the rotor head came out very realistically and well detailed.

Thanks for the post and photos, nice job.

Your scratch building techniques really paid off.  This looks fantastic!

Old 1:72 Italeri Mi-24

Hello!

Recently I've been repairing my old Mi-24 model, so I thought I'd snap some photos and share them with you. I've built this model while I was working in Germany, in 2004. Sorry to say the Italeri model isn't very accurate - the tail boom is some 8mm/half inch short and the main rotor rotates the wrong direction and the shape of the blades is totally off. The unguided rocket launchers are also bogus. Once I have found out I tried to remedy those issues. I had to let the tail boom be, but I have bought another kit - an old Airfix - for it's main rotor, that at least had a correct geometry. I have scratchbuilt my own rotor head. I have also used the airfix rocket launchers after drilling out the tubes. I have added flare launchers under the tail boom and also made the engine exhausts out of sheet brass. Recently I have added Armory AR MA7232 cast metal AoA sensor. Now my model looks like on the following photos:
