I'm sorry I'm so late in this game. I don't know how I could have missed this. What you have there is a fantastic build! Love the camouflag.

SO if you're following along, plans have changed drastically. The pre-cut masking i had was just not going to work out for the jagged marine jet :( I was heart broken. So i decided to re-pre shade and go with the second jet on the Twobobs old school adversaries sheet, the 3 tone blue Flanker scheme with the red 01 on it (which looks really cool). To paint I used a mix of the poster tack trick, along with some of Gator Mask's pre-cut masks to get the final shapes down, especially on the wings and tail. It went a lot better than the Marine was going. So really I guess my title is wrong now But i hope you'll still follow along. Paint was all Valejo, and I used the exact FS #s called out for on the twobobs sheet. The radom was a bit of a guess, in the end it ended up being about 2 parts NATO black and 1 part of the blue used on the aircraft. I was able to get some subtle variation thanks to the preshading. I have just over 2 weeks to get this done for IPMS Houston. There is no way it will win anything (sort of just joing the jet builders as mainly a car guy, man some of y'all are amazing) but maybe it will be cool to sit next to another adversary. There is still a lot to get done.
Its coming on well. Glad to seeyou managed to tackle the wheel wells.

Primer is on as is the preshading! Nothing fancy, tamiya grey with dark grey panel lines from the ol' airbrush. The step didn't go away :( but it falls within the dark green, so i'm hoping the dark color will mask it a bit. The fit on the nose was not the best TBH. More than likely i messed up since its a Tamiya kit... Anyways, after that was done i began by putting down the grey/almost cream grey part of the camo. I used Valejo color, and MAN do i love this stuff. Just put it in the airbrush and go. Does wonders for tonal variations especially in grey. Anyway, next part is the trickiest. Getting the masks down will not be an easy task, as many decals depend on getting them JUST right or else everything will be on the wonk. Wish me luck

WOW almost 20 days???? And the worst part... all 20 days have been sitting working on getting the dang Aires wheel bays in and fitting correctly. I won't go into details, but either i'm an idiot, or if your following along for advice, be sure you REALLY want these for your Tamiya viper. BUT MAN... they do look the part. So much better than the kit. I still need to detail painting on them though. But now thats done, I have something that looks a BIT like an F-16 now! One thing i am worried about though is that little step you see where the front upper wing meets the back upper wing section just in the middle of the plane there. I need to see how it looks with primer, but if its bad in primer still i'm unsure how i'll tackle that :(
This is already looking to be another great addition to the WiP threads around here!
Keep it going! :D

Thanks all for the kind comments, and i'm glad y'all are looking forward to this! I promise i've been working, most of it going on what you see here. Aires wheel bays. Both of these play a big part in the structure of the kit, as well as set the angle of stance with the wheels on. So to say the least, i wanted to get it right. It's taken about a week of work in total with my limited time, test fitting, sanding, removing, testing, sanding, testing, etc etc. This is my first resin upgrade parts (for an aircraft at least, been working with resin in the F1 model community for a while now. You can just see a resin Audi Le Mans car i'm working on as well in the background upside down). Now that i'm pretty happy with the fit, i'll get to laying down the white for the intakes and bays. Also, the reason should be pretty apparent why i chose to go with the Aires set when compared to the kit parts...
Bish This should be interesting, nice scheme. I didn't know the Marines had F-16's.

Makes two of us but shouldn't be a surprise. Marines buy their aircraft piggybacked on Navy contracts.
What I've got rattling around in my head is the new 1/48 Tamiya F-14 in the markings for VMFA-531 the Gray Ghosts. The Marines were intended to get 170 Tomcats before the cost overruns started getting ridiculous and the budget cutters stepped in.
This will be fun to watch.
"Whaddya mean 'Who's flying the plane?!' Nobody's flying the plane!"
I'll definitely be glued to this one. Just finished a CAS F-16 in the lizard camo.
Thanks,
John
Props...pppssshhh, we don't need no stinkin props! Bring it on! this will be sweet.
Here's an interesting story.

Looking forward to your WIP posts!

Howdy all! I figured it was time to post up my first WIP on the site. I know there are many many prop enthusiast on here, but hopefully you'll love a good F-16 build :) My subject is Tamiya's wonderful F-16C/N adversary, and I chose the awesome Marine scheme from Twobobs. It would be a pain to mask, so I had Kenny at Gatormasks custom make me some masks for the scheme (if you want to do it to, he now has the templates to sell you!) The kit will be embelished with Eduards PE for the interior and exterior, along with Aires wheel bay (no comparison to the kit, outstanding detail) and Eduard Brassin wheels to model the correct wheels the plane had. I hope you follow along, please feel free to comment, ask question, or even say i'm doing a terrible job! All in good fun.
