Revell of Germany A-320 Paint codes?
Posted by falconmod on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 1:27 PM

I just got the most recent release of the A-320 from RoG.   Does anyone know what paint they are referring to in their directions?

Their instructions refer to Revell's own line of paint, which is not available in the US. If you go to Revell.com, then Revell of Germany you'll see a tab on the left for a paint conversion chart to Testor's Model Master equivilents. (They are intending to offer Tamiya #'s as well in the near future.)

Another source of conversion #'s is www.paint4models.com which is an exhaustive chart with lots of brands, as well as FS numbers, RGB, etc. It used to work online, but for me it doesn't do searches anymore, so I use the download version. It's a valuable resource if you have the time to spend with it.

Another thing you might try is to post the color #'s you're looking for, and maybe myself or other Forum members can give you equivilents from their experience. In a perfect world, Revell would just provide the info right in the instruction sheet!

IMO that's a question that I always solve by figuring out the color of the 1:1 and going from there. Back when I started modeling, except for car finish colors like "candy apple red", there were like eight colors of Testors. Silver, white, black, brown, red, yellow, blue, green.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Thanks Mike for your help,    I must  be getting old not to have seen that!    They do have one number in the instructions that's not listed in their paint chart, it's #730  Clear Orange.    it's for a mixed color on the jet.    75% white 20% clear orange and 5% aluminum

Hello John. I'm working thru something similar with their recent EU2000 "Bronze Tiger" release, heading to the LHS today to pick up Tamiya's Clear Orange and Copper to do some testing. Tamiya is the only brand I like that's available locally, so if it doesn't please me it'll be a more tedious online experience.

If you're a Tamiya user, the Clear Orange might work for your combo as well, along with Flat White and a touch of Aluminum, although I find Tamiya's aluminum a bit coarse. Maybe it isn't really necessary to get your color - there's a lot of white in that mix. Good luck and keep us posted!
