photofilm question
Posted by Johnny1000 on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 1:45 PM

Howdy

I just received an Eduard PE set (1/48 F4U-1a for Tam) which I ordered on the Ebays. All is well and good and looks lovely, except the "photofilm" for the instrument panel, which appears to be photocopied onto cardstock.

This can't be right, can it?

Thx!

Well... not much.

At the top of the sheet next to the images of the frets there's a pic of the IP art that says "print" and then in the actual instructions it shows where to apply "film a" and "film b" for the two parts.

Thanks!

You cut out the bit on the card and glue it to the back of the metal piece. Normally these are on acetate, not seen then on card before, but same thing.

Did you buy this off a private seller. I am woundering if for some reason he copied the original onto card.

Thanks. It's the "printed on card" part that's throwing me. There's very little detail in the print—the instruments are mostly undifferentiated mush—which makes me think it's a copy of the original acetate part.

I've only had one other PE set which had photofilm IP, which was acetate and had a lot more detail.

I can probably re-create the art so it might not be a big deal, but before I did I wanted make sure this was a case of poor product delivery rather than too high expectations.

Maybe worth an email to Eduard with the pic, and see what they say.  If it supposed to be acetate, they might send a replacement.

Ye, i would follow GH's suggestion. I have not had to deal with Eduard, but the other Eastern European companies i have dealt with have been great.

There is only one reason i can think of as to why this is copied. I have heard of people making their own PE and am woundering how easy and cost effective it would be to copy a complete Eduard set. But the way only way to replicate the film was on card.

Might be a bit far fetched as it might cost more than its worth, but i can't think of any other reason.
