Using photo etch parts

I'm not sure if any copper colored photoetch would (or should) remain unpainted.

Generally, interiors and exteriors of aircraft will have some form of corrosion protection applied to most surfaces.  This includes cockpit controls, boxes, sidewalls, gear wells, flaps and almost everything else.  Corrosion is an airframe killer and reduces operational life.  There's not much inside a cockpit that isn't painted or coated in some way.

Can anyone tell me if the copper colored photoetch parts are left as is or is it painted.

 

painted... unless you plan on leaving the rest of the model unpainted. And due to PE and Plastic having different surface properties, you will probably want to primer the area before painting.
