That’s probably what I should have done as well but I really like comparing the sizes and construction of the different nations aircraft.  I’m sure not all the 1:48’s are to scale though

Yeah that show seems to have an actors curse. Seems like way too many have passed

Yeah, I'm about 95% 1/48th but do step down to 1/72nd with four engine bombers just for space issues.

I just found out about Jerry Doyle's passing about a month ago and it's got me hankering to go back and rewatch the series too.

*'Vir, what is that Earth animal. Webbed feet, feathers, goes 'quack'?'

'Cats, Londo?'

'Yes, I feel like I am being nibbled to death by cats!'

Thanks for that. I really need to binge watch that again. I like the Pe-8’s I just wish they had it in 1:48 because that’s my scale. Sure beats the heck out of the IL-4’s. That’s one seriously ugly plane

If you get the hankering to build another Soviet bomber I have two Zvezda Pe-8s (the military version and Stalin's personal plane) and they look fantastic in the box. No idea how they fit but they're very nicely molded and look to be well designed kits.

Better than being nibbled to death by cats...*

I see they make a IL-4 model now.  Supposedly a better designed model but oh the glassware  Confused

Yup, you whipped it into a really nice build and finish. Always glad to see someone win the fight, and you sure did. Thanks for the post and photos.

Thank you sir

As others have said ... you built a fine looking model from a kit that fought you along the way. You won!

Really wished I wouldn’t have screwed up that decal. Don’t think there would be any chance to get a replacement On this one I think it was more of a draw Stick out tongue

Looks very good.  I certainly haven't seen any of these built before.

Thank You! There's not alot of pics of this model out there.  It was definately a "challenge" I'll be curious how the Zvezda PE-2 goes.  As I found out that has even more parts Tongue Tied

Nice job!I made the ICM 1/72 Version and it is a very nice looking aircraft.Good job on the cammo and weathering!

Thank You!  The Instructions over all were garbage especially trying to figure out how to build the Russian version and not the chinese. The Youtube video showed me the canopy scheme and the engine intakes There painting instructions were even worse.  At first it looked like there was some camo on the engine mounts under the wings and then I realized they put in the shading from the wing, so painting was best guess

Thanks guys. At one point during the engine construction I was so frustrated that I ordered a Zvezda Pe-2 as a replacement for this one.  I had just completed the second engine build and for whatever reason the indexing was off on the second engine so the cylinder heads were parallel and not offset.  That screwed up the fit of the exhaust assembly and I had to pry it apart when the glue was mostly set. Then fudge the construction.  Sad thing was the "fudged" engine fit better in the engine mount.  I'm sure someone with better skills could have handled this plane better but at the time I bought it, it was the only 1:48 russian bomber out there. Some people thrive on challenges. Personally I like parts that fit

Well with all the issues and wanting to stomp this build, it Definately looks fantastic.  You should be proud that you were able to finish this build.  You did a great job!

Despite the issues she came out fantastic! Great job on her!

There must be something about Soviet twin-engine bombers- the worst kit I ever built, and yes I wanted to give it a good stomp was Historic's 1/48th Pe-2.

The harder the fight the sweeter the victory.  And that sir, is a sweet victory.

Well I've finally finished.  It was a very challenging. I had to do more putty work than I'm used to. I used the blu tack worms for the camo pattern and was at least happy how that turned out.  It looked a little to stark so I faded it with light gray. Also you can see what happens when you touch decals covered in dull coat before its completely dry. I must admit this was the first model that I had seriously fight the urge to smash it with a hammer

Quick update.  Took some time off and just started working on this again.  For those who like a challenge this is a perfect model for you.  It's kinda above my pay grade.  I actually like parts that have some form of indexing that allows you to line them up.  This, to me, must be what scratch building is like.  My hat goes off to anyone who has built this model.  I'm at the putting the wings and engine mounts on the fuselage and the lets see if any of the engine cowlings fit stage right now.  As photobucket as been rather unpleasent as I just found out.  Any ideas for a good picture sharing site.  Thank You

Excellent start!  I'll be following this one.

Thanks Toshi.  This was one of my welcome to modeling kits I bought when I first started.  At the time it was the only 1/48 kit of a Russian Bomber that I could find. So far it's been "interesting" to say the least

Gamera

Yikes!!! I can barely cement controls like that in place in 1/48th without losing 75% of them- in 1/72nd that's insane!

Gamera it is 1/48 scale but it still is tiny.  I've got most of the interior detail stuff cemented on the fusage and I am gettign close to painting the interior.  I'll post some pics when I get it painted.  It took me about a hour to get the gun mount assembly glued together....managed to glue to parts to my fingers multiple times

I remember when this and it's brothers appeared to mixed reviews. One writer said he hoped that they were the first of many from the company, but that has yet to happen, so you may be working on a "collector" kit or just a flash in the pan.

In either case it's an interesting aircraft, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it builds for you.

It was actually reviewed here.  It's not for the faint of heart or rookies like me, but I'm plowing ahead as best as I can.  Here's pics of the box art and some instruction pages.  The pieces are extremely small and fragile. Too small to use regular glue. So superglue it is.  Multiiple glued fingers. I enclosed the instructions for the control console and the lower gun and mount so you can see the scale.  I have no idea how they figured how someone was going to glue each lever into those slots.  Especially when the sprues attach on the base of the levers.  I managed to get them lined up somewhat with the slots but I did lose one of the buttons to the carpet monster.  I had to use double magnification just to somewhat see what I was doing. This will be a slow plane form china build for me
