Color Question
Posted by Hawk on Sunday, May 28, 2017 8:10 PM

As my first project getting back in to the hobby after a 37year break I've embarked on a Revelle F4U Corsair.

The question I have is the instructions say sea blue for the fuse and wings. To me that's wrong, I would think a darker blue say insignia blue would be more in line with reality. Am I wrong?

To be accurate, which model are you doing?  Insignia Blue is definitely the wrong color.

WIP:  Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 73rd BS B-26, 40-1408, torpedo bomber attempt on Ryujo

Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 22nd BG B-26, 7-Mile Drome, New Guinea

Minicraft 1/72 B-24D as LB-30, AL-613, "Tough Boy", 28th Composite Group

If I had to guess, it's this kit.

This sea blue looks like a good match.  It's what I plain to use on that kit when I get around to building it.

If you have been away for a while some brands only mention colors in one or two brands of paint. I listed some suggestions below for paints for a pacific fleet F4U during WW2 and Korea.

For the Pacific fleet the color is Model Masters Dark Sea Blue. Some model brands have their own paints and you will see their name.

Model masters acrylic: Dark Sea Blue #4686

Model masters enamil: Dark Sea Blue #1717

Testors little bottle enamil gloss: Dark Blue gloss 1111TT

Testors little bottle enamil flat: Flat Sea Blue 1127TT (mix in some gloss base)

Humbrol #77 Navy blue (mix in gloss base)

Edit:

A Revell kit. The colors are going to be listed in Revell's own paint line.

Chasing the ultimate build.

Model Master  FS15042 Dark Sea Blue is an excellent match.

Keyda, yes that is the kit. And thanks to all for the quick reply's, It's appricated. I did have a "DOH" moment though. I went back and looked at the bottle I bought at the same time I got the kit. The bottle reads "Gl Dark Blue".... yep, worng color. So it's back to the hobby shop and pay more attention to the color I'm getting.

Getting old SUCKS !!! But thats part of the fun....

Thanks all,

chris

Christopher,

Another alternative is MRP Glossy Sea Blue ANA 623 (http://mrpaint.sk/farby/lietadla/USA?product_id=64).

I'm doing a build of the AU-1 Corsair used in the Korea War and from my reasearch that colour was used on all late model F4U-4 and later.

Happy building.
