Stearman

I may or may not see a Stearman this weekend, but will definately see one in a few weeks. I will ask what the gauge of the wire is and that can be scaled down. That said, I generally use the fine copper wire from a small electric motor winding. It is about the thickness of a human hair and looks scale enough for me. The fact that it is metal makes it easier to work with and strong enough to be pulled tight without breaking. I think there is an aftermarket supplier of wire for this type of application, but I have not tried it yet.

Enjoy the build. This is a relatively new kit from Revell and it is very nice.

I'll second that. The kit looks quite detailed. I think I will try using EZ Line for the first time with this kit. I think it comes in different sizes as well.

The full scale flying wires on a Stearman wing are streamlined stainless steel, about 1/2 inch wide and 1/16 thick.  The bracing wires on the tail are also streamlined but are about 5/16 wide and proportionately thin.

So they're mighty thin..next question is how do I attach the wires? I'm guessing some kind of glue but how do I keep the wires reasonably tight while the glue stes?

I've built that kit. Loved it- one of Revell's best aircraft kits. I have two more in my stash, one the modified one with the PW 450 in it, cowled, and one of the original kit to do in different military livery.
