Where do I start on telling this tale? I began this kit 6 years and two residences ago. It suffered a few mishaps along the way, especially in the paint work/finish area, and so sat sidelined for much of that time. A few months ago I pulled it off the sidelines and knuckled down to completion. I completely redid the finish, which this time came out as I wanted. Then I used so decals that I had in my possession since the 70's... after a couple coats of Microscale Decal Film, just to make sure they would not shatter due to age. They worked flawlessly.
So after getting a new image hosting site, here is the build.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

Whoa! Nice recovery on the Sabre! Nice mix of finishes, looks good for sure. I need to build an F-86 for the museum, what an iconic aircraft.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it. I am satisfied with the end result, but it still has more goofs than I would have preferred. Too many speed bumps with this one.
Route62, I used Model Master Metalizer Magnesium for the wing center. The rest was Humbrol enamel and Model Master acrylic Aluminum
It looks superb to me, Stik. I don't know what mistakes you've made on it, but that yellow almost glows on my screen! Its really, really attractive! :D

Beautiful work Stik! I agree with Mike, whatever speed bumps you had does not show. I think I'll have to make this one of Monogram Mafia entries since you inspired me!

200 kits was my limit...
Mike, Steve, and Stephen, the biggest problems came in the decal stage. The yellow ID bands were decals that came from a different decal sheet and did not quite fit this kit. Nor were they matched to any standard yellow paint such as insignia yellow. I had to mix up a custom matching shade by eyeball to do touch ups. And we all know how much of a beast that yellow can be to paint. And the fuselage band was really a beast due to compound curves, etc. The touch ups and fixes to them are quite prominent to my eye. And the metallic paints had some problems too... mostly self inflicted. And some other gaffes that occurred at the end...
But thank you for looking in and your kind words. I really do love this old kit. Like somebody said above, this was the only game in town years ago. Just needs a little work to shine... even today.

I was going to say that we are all our own worst critic but you beat me to it. I think your Sword turned out very nicely. I've built many of them (mostly Royal Canadian Air Force) but only one RM Sabre. It's still a good kit, despite the spindly landing gear legs and the blocked intake trunk but it has a few features that the better Hasegawa and Academy Sabres don't have. You know where the flaws are but most people won't recognize them. Don't beat yourself up over it. I think you did a fine job. I've done RCAF, Luftwaffe, JASDF and Pakistani Sabres. Not on my list are RAF and a USAF Sabres. But they will be in the future.

Murph, I do agree about this kit having some features that other new ones lack. It is amazing to think that an older kit will do that. And funny how you mention the landing gear. The nose gear attaches as solid as can be. But the main gear was indeed spindly. At least until the glue dried. But now all is well with that. And I did overcome the intake and exhaust trunking shortcomings by taking covers for those from the Academy Sabre in my stash. It has full trunking for both ends , so it has no need for those parts
Bish the weathering was simplicity in itself- Flory wash in the recessed areas, and pencil on the raised details. Both sealed by the final Humbrol Matt Coat. And of course the requisite gun blast soot was Tamiya weathering stuff... whatever they call their little compacts.
Dispite your self confessed flaws, (none of which I saw ) I think this is an amazing build and I sure wish I could do that. I'll keep trying though...I'll endeavor to perservere due to your fine inspiration Mate.

Jay Jay, and Mike, thank you. I will post this close up where most of the worst gaffes are glaring... at least to me. But I am am quite encouraged how everybody here sees the forest, and not the trees on this build.
