Revell B29 - suggestions for attaching engine cowling to nacelle

I built this kit a long time ago and followed the instructions.  I never had an issue with the nacelles falling off.  I used tube glue and they seemed to glue on fine.

That is a great idea. Unfortunetly, the engines are glued to the cowlings.

First, let's clear one thing up, Revell did not engineer this kit--this is Monogram's masterpiece.

Having said that, I have the same issue with the Monogram P-47's.  What I do should work for you as well.  First, before the engines are installed into the cowlings, tape the cowlings in place on the wings. Then take some "L" shaped evergreen styreen and cut it into 1/4 inch pieces (4 pieces per enging should work). Now insert these brackets through the cowling front so one side is agains the wing "firewall" and the other surface rests against the inside of the cowling. Glue the pieces in place, spaced evenly around the firewall, being careful not to glue the cowling (should not be hard). Once dry , remove the tape and cowlings. You now 4 good mouting tabs/gluing surfaces for each cowling.

If you use Tenax or Plast I Weld around the join, you will have a very strong and solid connection since these glues melt the plastic to bond both parts together. I use the Touch N Flow applicator for such applications and works out every time.

I'm in the middle of this build myself for the Monogram Mafia. I remember reading on another thread awhile ago that you have to actually follow the directions on which cowling goes where. I followed this advise and used CA to connect them. So far, they have not fallen off, yet....

You could file the sides of that projection flat and smooth, and then cut triangles from styrene- actually maybe a rhombus would be better, to create webs for that cantilevered structure.  That would make it much stiffer and easier to hold the weight of the engine and cowl.  It shouldn't be real visible, so not a lot of care would be needed.  Each angle- the first from the firewall to the horizontal projection, and then from the horizontal projection to the vertical segment, would then have a web.  Do same thing on both sides of the projection.  Two rhumbuses (rhombi?) for each nacelle.
