That's interesting. My friend was in the Marines at that time and he just got back from Vietnam and he was like oh great now I'm going to get killed in the desert, man! He was happy it was only 6 days too

Griffin, I was in the Air Force when the Six Day War occured. All of us at Moody Field watched the proceedings very closely. I talked with a lot of pilots about the possibility of having to go to the Middle East in support of Isreal. Fortunately the whole thing lasted less than a week.

One thing that also came to mind was Pat Frank's novel "Alas Babylon."

   Hey Beautiful job . Whattya mean only your second build ? Suggestion . Go to Micheal's or Hobby Lobby . See if they have  " Rub n Buff " for coloring and antiquing . They have a nice silver ( antique ) that is nothing sort or awesome . You have to buff the H%^$& out of it but when dry , WOW !       P.S. That has a large office for the scale . 

 

Thanks Tanker & JayJay. I would like to try a "real" aluminum finish. Thanks for the tip. I think I will try a buffable finish next time. They look so good when they are done right. It's a bit itimidating when I look at some of the excellent aluminum finished and super detailed planes on this site. I'm a scared. lol. I'm not down with the plane lingo. "Office" is the cockpit perhaps? I read on some reviews of this kit that the 1/100 scale is a bit wonky

Thank you sir. The hosting site is USE.com. I read about it in one of the PB threads. I don't know if it has any bells and whistles but it is very easy and seems to work great for posting here. It doesn't have an app you just have to use the browser page. The site isn't flashy and looks dated but heck, it works great and its simple. 

Excellent build.  Escpecially for your your first jet.  I've built Luftwaffe jets but someday I'll take the plunge and build a modern bird.  Hope it looks as good as yours!

Fotofrank- I have the Tamiya 1/100 Mig 21. I bought it right after I bought this one. $6 dollars with free shipping from Japan! I was going through a 6 Day War phase. I might build that next. 

Fox- The decals for this kit were nice actually. They were thin and pliable. The problem was they wouldn't come off the sheet! I pulled too hard on the first one. I had to soak them for 5 minutes after that. I don't know why. Perhaps its an old kit. Probably from the 80s or 90s. That's why it was so inexpensive. The fit on the parts was very poor as well. 

Looks really nice.  I like the subtle panel lines.  Not to over done.

I have been bitten by the cracking decals on a few kits. Lately, when ready to use the decals, I cut off a part of the sheet that isn't going to be used such as the kit manufacturer or kit name and try it to see if it works correctly. If not, I spray the sheet with a couple of light coats of Testors Decal Bonder which usually takes care of the problem. It's even worked on a sheet where the decals were totally disintegrating.

The little can of the Bonder isn't that expensive and lasts quite a while. Hope that this helps.

1/100 scale? I thought 1/72 scale was small. I'm very impressed with the finished peice. Very well done. I am a real fan of natural metal finish and you did yours very well. Maybe your next jet should be an Egyptian Air Force MiG 17 in 1/72 scale from that period.
