Masterfully built!

This thread will be one of my references when I get around to building mine.

Stunning! I have no other adjectives for this that haven't already been said.

I hope to see more from your bench. :)

A beautiful build and a beautiful result.  Thank you for sharing this WIP, I learned about some techniques that are new to me, and learned about Uschi.  Had a look around their website and they have a lot of interesting items.  I might have to pick some up.  Smile

Cheers, Mark

That's one pretty bird ! I have always loved the WWI planes , and your paintjob makes it come alive.

Nice work on the rigging too!

They are kinda both - they do require colour underneath (I used a variety of shades of Tamiya Deck Tan) If you then poil wash over them, the colour is very subtle and the wood grain on the decal surface appears very subtly through too.

AdeB, that's beautiful so far. I tried posting a few weeks ago on a lunch break but got tied up with something. Quick question about the decals...are the Uschi decals transparent or are they just a wood grained texture transferred onto decal film requiring color underneath??

I hear they're pricey. But they sure are pretty!

Next up the big job off the fuselage.

First a pre-shade then each panel coloured a slightly different shade.

Next the Uschi wood decals are applied to each panel in turn, again two slightly different colour decal. Once this is all dry, I'll try and bring the whole lot together with an oil wash.

Beautiful work on the Albatros.  And the wood grain on that guillotine pic is flawless.  Really top notch work.  I'll be following this build.  Yes

Still waiting for the oils to dry so I made a start on the upper deck of the Albatros. That's Alclad Dark Aluminium over Mr Surfacer 1500 Black.

Going to dip in tentatively to the wood grain decals later.

I've got the weekend edition (plus some Eduard PE) of the same aircraft so I'll be following along looking for pointers.

When I make some bench time for myself (been hiking and doing other things) I'll have to first finish my Avenger dio, then maybe attempt to rescue my trashed stringbag and then... maybe another bip.

I've read excellent reviews about the Uschi decals. They look very real and are much easier to do than the oil technique.

I kind of like the oil technique myself. I did this old Aurora Guillotine a while back with a tan acrylic color as a base and burnt umber oil paint for the graining. Double click on the image for a good closeup.

Looks great so far!  I started the Fokker Dr.1 but lost momentum at the thought of painting all the wood in the cockpit!

I have some Uschi VDR decals that I am going to try for the first time. I'm hoping they give a more realistc look than the plain oil technique I've used on the inside.
