Thanks,

I did use decals from furball on the canopy. The required trimming to fit. Next time I think I’ll mask and paint the seals.

Finished the F-8J Crusader. Has to be the most aftermarket stuff I have ever used. I stole the AIM-9's out of my spares box. I have had this one for a while. Guess I should have waited for the Eduard rebox with all the goodies.

Hasagawa F-8J Kit # PT-26,Eduard Cockpit PT#FE294, Eduard resin exhaust PT# 648-302,True Details martin Baker MK V seat PT48-422,SAC metal gear PT# 48-054, Wolfpack wing fold PT# 48021,Rhino seamless intake PT# 48005 and montex mask PT# SM 48060. Painted with Hataka ornge lin paint as well as Testors model masters.

Does anyone know where you can get the resin Zuni rockets to add to my 1/48 F-8?

John

Hasegawa, if memory serves, included them in the 1/48 F-8E kit.  You might see if anyone has some in the spares box that they did not use.

that's that name of the company that makes them,  I couldn't remember.   Looks like a company called Lone Star Models has aquired their molds,  also looks like I'll have to wait a while before he has all the accessories back up for sale?

Thanks

John

Hey John,

looks like Cobra company had a set of the dual Zuni rockets in the late 90's. Don't know if they are still around.

WOW  your pit looks very impresive and well detailed. Kudos to the open canopy and wing fold as well. Looking forward to your next post Mate

I have a Hasegawa 1/72 F-8 on my workbench right now. I'm planning to put it in USMC colors. The underwing stations I have put MER on and I plan to arm it with Mk82 bombs. I believe the kit comes with AIM-9B Sidewinders. If a F-8 was on a bombing mission would it carry 4 Sidewinders? 2? 0?

Very cool, can't get too many Crusaders!

From what I have seen (Google). The air to

ground load outs used the 127mm Zuni rockets

on the side mounted weapons stations with

various bomb loadouts on the wing stations.

Cheers!

JOE RIX wrote the following post 15 hours ago: All of your efforts appear to be paying off in spades. Excellent work on an equally awesome subject. Although I currently only have 1/72 F-8's in my stash, I've been wanting to get the Hasegawa 1/48. I'd read that the canopy could only be displayed closed which is unfortunate. How much work was involved to make the modifications for an open canopy? Tremendous work. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Hey Joe,

Thanks!

 Here is a link to the modification ;

It wasn't to difficult.

I plan on doing a Navy F-8. My first squadron was VF-24. I always stoped and looked at the MIG kills painted in the ladder well when walking "topside" at Miramar.

Here are some progress pictures of my F-8. Hasagawa kit # PT-26

Modified the canopy so it can be displayed open. Need to rescribe the panel lines around the intake. I used a seamless one.

Working on the Wolfpack wing fold.

Lot's and lot's of body work and still pleanty to do.

Thanks for checking in.

Cheers.
