my P-51D progress pics
Posted by saltydog on Saturday, March 27, 2004 8:51 PM
hello fellows, i thought i'd share my progress on my P-51D. ive been in the hobby since july of 03' and this is my second "serious" build. my first build was a P-51D as this is my favorite bird of all time. the first one i built was displayed in the air so there wasnt much to it. this time, i thought i'd try my hand at open cockpits and wheel wells. ive bought about a half a dozen kits since ive started the hobby just for airbrush fodder as im an "airhead" and love airbrushes. ive bought more airbrushes than i have kits. anyway, this is also my first delve into aftermarket parts. i thought i'd live up to my fsm posts ranking of "aftermarket". LOL. boy rankings can be decieving cant they. this particular cockpit is a resin kit from True Details and i really like it except for the instrument panel is very weak in my opinion. this is the first time ive hand painted anything since ive been in this hobby and i really, really enjoyed myself. now i just have to find some good quality hand paints. i used tamiya acrylics for this cockpit. any recommendations are welcome. after you sand down the sidewalls on the original tamiya kit, this cockpit fits excellently. hope you like it. thanks, later.

the parts haven't been glued together yet, im still in the dry fit stage. it may just happen after this post though.

Coming along nicely, saltydog !

The True Details cockpits are a good deal for the price, aren't they?

Great looking detail there, Salty.
I really like the cockpit side work.
After all that work, you could only display that with an open cockpit!

Keep us updated.

thanks guys, it really encourages me to hear some good feed back. arent digital cameras and forums great!! Pix, i really like the true details cockpit and it was a bargin for the detail it adds. you look at the kit cockpit and then at the resin pit and think, ill never do another model with a kit pit again. ill keep the updates coming. thanks guys, later.

Steve,

You do some nice airbrush work there my friend. Thumbs Up [tup]
I need to get out in that garage and start doing some more airbrushing myself as the weather is getting nice again. I have never done an aircraft picture and I think it's time to. Wink [;)]
I do have some photos at the link below my signature that I did years ago.

no steve, i havent airbrushed on anything besides plastic since highschool. i used to airbrush t-shirts for a few of my friends. i airbrushed a large mural for the backdrop of my junior prom and that being 15yrs ago. after i graduated i chased other things that are unsavory to discuss and just picked up this hobby last year. i love to fool around with airbrushes though. later.
