Its definitely a white shade. I always use an off white color. Gunze and Akan have some excellent matches.

There's a really finie line between very light gray and white. Do some preshading in gray and the discussion turns purely academic, so I think everyone could agree on very, very light gray.

I agree with both responses. A bit of weathering will give it some realism. Most Vietnam era aircraft were dirty from constant sorties, even off aircraft carriers.

That particular shade of gray is one of the lightest in the Fed Standard catalog and is very close to appearing white in fifty year old photos. But, once you see it up close in person, there is no doubt that it is definitely a gray.

I've never seen the enamale MM Camoflage Gray Fs 36622 have a yellow hugh.  Then again you dont have to worry about it since they dont make it anymore.

Hoping these might help a bit. The underside of the fuselage is the FS 36622 Camoflauge Gray in question. The nosegear strut is in plain white.

The same appears here in this restored bird - gray undersides, white gear. Sort of close, but unmistakably different.
