A couple of weeks ago, while on vacation, my wife and I visited our son at Moody AFB. He is stationed there as a member of the 23rd Wing, the Flying Tigers. During our visit, he took us to the Air Park, a display of aircraft that have been used by the Flying Tigers since their early days in the USAAF/USAF. They don’t have every type represented, but it’s still a very nice display to see.
The last aircraft, a HC-130, is not flown by the Flying Tigers, but is flown by the PJ unit also stationed at Moody currently. If my memory is correct, other aircraft flown by the 23rd, but not represented here are: P-51, F-89, and F-16.

Very cool. Those aircraft look to be in great shape. All the aircraft at outdoor museums here in socal are heavily weathered. Thanks for posting...wish they had an f89
Thanks,
John
Yes, considering the Georgia weather, they are in good shape. The same goes for most of the ones that I saw at Lackland AFB last year during my son‘s graduation. I haven’t been by the March AFB museum since the late 80’s. Or El Toro MCAS a decade later. And neither of those bases kept up their aircraft so nicely. Only McClellan AFB neat Sacramento had such a well maintained collection that I’ve visited.
I agree about the F-89. There is one empty “pad” on display. I’m curious as to what may go there.
Great photos there Stik. Thats a real nice display they gave and good to see them so well looked after.
Thanks for posting.

Stikpusher, my wife and I were at Moody on October 28, for the Community Appreciation Days open house and airshow. I hadn't been back to Moody since September 1970, when I was released from active duty. I was at Moody for 3-1/2 years, assigned to the 3550 Pilot Training Wing. I was disappointed that there wasn't any kind of tour of the base. I would have liked to see just how Moody has changed in the 50 years since I was there. You were fortunate that your son is assigned to Moody and that he could take you around to see the base. I think the air park sits where the 3550 Wing Headquaters was when I was assigned to Moody. George W. Bush was supposed to have taken his pilot training at Moody in '67 or '68 but there is no way anyone could have known who he was then. At that time, we moved 500 trainees through every six weeks, including Vietnamese and Iranian student pilots.
I took something in excess of 700 pictures that day. I have winnowed the amount down to just over 100 that I will be editing, 25 at a time. As I finish them I will be sharing them with everyone here on the forums.
Go Air Force!
OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...
Thanks for sharing they look very well cared for. If you ever get the chance head to wright patterson afb home of the national museum of the united states air force. I live about 3 hours away and try to make it at lease once a year. It would take at least 3 days to see and read everything it's huge.

Oh great photos, thanks for sharing!

I’m glad you guys like the photos. Frank we did get to see a good portion of the base. But it was the Veterans Day weekend, so there was not much going on. My son‘s dorms look about the same as the new barracks that were at Ft Lewis when I was there in 2004/2006. Pretty nice living. Although they have some conditions I don’t agree with compared with my active duty Army days. Times have changed...
Nice!
Just last night, in my boredom...I was looking at AF bases on google maps(satellite view) and zoomed in on those planes!

LOL! That’s always fun. I like to check out some of my former duty stations and stomping grounds doing that.

Theres a lot of aerial photo's from the 1940's of air bases in the UK. I like to compare those with modern images from google.
I like the way you presented your pic, along with the corresponding plaque.
Hope you enjoyed your stay.
Nice pics man. And the aircraft are quite nice for outdoor dispaly pieces!
