Thank you for the compliments.  I watched lots of YouTube videos to figure out exactly what to do.  In the end, it's just a matter of taking your time.  I still would like to reduce the errors I make, though.

Hey, that’s a great job. After just getting back into the hobby myself, I admire your work and posting. Great job with the shading. I haven’t gotten to that level yet. Most of mine end up looking factory fresh. This is the main reason I haven’t posted any of builds yet (plus being tech challenged). The thing is, build for yourself and enjoy the hobby. With every kit, I learn something new and usually every kit gets better. The folks here are super talented, supportive, and I have learned so much.

Glad I could be of help.

You're doing fine. I agree with another poster suggesting a little better camera work. You certainly can do that .. it's nice to have the wife able to shoot some pictures but I'm sure if you pay attention to the lighting and the lcd, you'll capture some better images of what looks to be a fine model.

Looks good to me!  I have one I started 32 years ago!  Scratch built the exposed afterburners and avionics boxes in the rear bay with additional details on the canopy frames and rails.

Very well, prepare to not be impressed!

F-4 fan here, haven't seen any reason your WIP for it, wouldn't be impressive!

laskdjn

Thank you all for all the kind words and encouragement.  My goal is not necessarily to be able to build professional quality builds, but one day, maybe, I'd like to enter a competition or two and see how I do.

As to the kit, I thought it was pretty good.  There were some fiddly bits that continuously broke off, for instance the actuators on the afterburner petals.  And I couldn't stop breaking the seeker heads off the GBU-10s.  The decals left a lot to be desired as none of them really wanted to lay down, although that is probably the result of my inability to lay down a smooth gloss coat.  The stripe at the top of the vertical stabilizer I ended up painting on as those decals would not conform no matter how much micro sol, micro set, and solvaset I used.  The conformal tanks weren't as bad as I thought they'd be.  The intake trunks were a bear, I painted those by pouring thick house paint down them a couple times, you can still see the seams, though.  Speaking of seams, I'm still trying to find a filler that I feel comfortable with, I've tried squadron, PPP and vallejo, I'm probably just not doing it right.  Also, I couldn't help but get a step between the front of the fuselage with the cockpit and the rest of the fuselage.

All in all, I liked the kit, I do intend on circling back to it and doing it again.  But I'd get aftermarket decals, and I'd probably get a weapons kit so I could hit every hardpoint with Mk-82s, CBU-87s, or something like that.

I'm considering doing a WIP thread on the Academy F-4 I'm doing so I can glean the exceptional knowledge and wisdom of you guys and learn tips and tricks to do things better as I do them.  The bottom line is that I just wanna get better.

laskdjn, you might want to try Tamiya White Putty.  It’s a lacquer based product so just go to Home Depot or Loews and by a can.  It’s cheaper at these places plus you can utilize the Lacquer to clean your AB (Air Brush).  That’s all I like to use is Tamiya White Putty.  Just (MHO) my humble opinion.

It looks great! I like the painting, I think you've captured the subtle variations in color.

How did you like the kit?

That looks pretty good to me, keep up the good work.

Flickr does take a bit of getting used to, but once you do, i find it pretty easy. I use the same approach as fermis, it is a bit long winded but it doesn't leave you with loads of linked text as tyhe other option does. Stick with it.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

F-15e ready for inspection.  I made a ton of mistakes.  Be gentle....I jest, I'm trying to learn and get better.

I took the liberty of getting your pics posted.Toast

Looks good from where I sit!!!

Getting pics from Flickr...

When you have the pic selected...move the curser down to the lower right corner...click on the download icon (arrow pointing down at a line)...click on "view all sizes"....right click on pic..."copy image address". Come back here, click the photo icon above...right click on "source"..."paste"..."OK". The forum will automatically size the image here.

It is a bit of a hassle, seems like a lot of clicking, but I have yet to find an easier way.

I'd love to see the images but there are no pictures showing on my monitor.

This may be of some interest:

Thanks for the tip, I fixed my original post using your suggestion.

Thank you, I watched as many YouTube videos on airbrushing and assembly and whatnot as I could. Definitely not a personal modeler...or photographer for that matter.

Still had a lot of issues with seams, glue fingerprints, clear coating, decal silvering.

Forgot to mention, it's the Revell bird in 1/48

Ok, photo issue aside, that looks like one very cool model for someone who hasn't built one in so long. Very nice

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Shoot, the pictures didn't load up inline, you have to click the stupid broken picture icon.  Is there a photo hosting service better than flickr?
