Revell f15e strike eagle with avionics cockpit
Posted by STUBURT on Saturday, February 17, 2018 6:01 PM

Good day all,

So I'm starting my new build the strike Eagle, I'm going to try to post pics as I go (if photobucket works for me ) .

So I'm going to be using the avionics cockpit set for this one it's my first go at resin but thought hey why not plus I got it for 10 bucks. The tub is gorgeous super nice the IP are identical to the kits I might mix and match abit . And the seats are super.

Question anyone out there use this set yet? Any warnings or advice is welcome. Also the instructions are horrible most of it is straight forward but I got lots of little switches and no idea where to put them .

Look forward to hearing anything you guys have to say on the matter.

Thanks

Can't give you any advice on the cockpit...but most do require a bit of sanding on the side walls of the kit part or the aftermarket pit...or even both....test fit!!! I built this kit (OOB) just a couple months ago...it's a good'n! Can't recall any issues with it.

Photobucket won't work, unless you are paying the premium price for 3rd party hosting. I'd recommend ANY other hosting site over p/b. Personally, I use Flickr....there's a bit of a learning curve to getting pics posted though...easy'nuff, once you know how though.

@fermis

Thanks I will check it out .

The side walls will definitely need sanding aside from the tub I've been comparing the parts and most are identical. I like the tub so I'm using it but as most of the resin is paper thin I think I'm gonna use the kit parts for almost the rest of the pit. (Starting to see why this was 10 bucks ) but the seats and tub definitely worth it . As I generally build WW2 German planes this is a bit out of the comfort zone but it's a nice looking plane so gonna give it my best shot. (Carpet monster struck almost immediately lol so it's been an adventurous start)

Carpet monster is a jerk!

I don't build many modern jets...but when I do, I almost always replace the seats, at the very least. Kit parts always seem to be lacking.

I have that kit in my stash and the pit is VERY good and IMO no need for a resin replacent. Any type of resin pit will require lots of cutting, sanding and dry fitting to make things fit. I have yet to find a true "drop in" resin pit.

First thing you needto do is to wash all the parts in Dawn and set them to air dry. This will remove the mold release oils. Make sure you use primer to get good paint coverage and adhesion.

@plasticjunkie

The kit parts are great I agree, in the end I'm using the resin tub and the seats. I've been doing some test fitting and the tub seams to fit quite well and as the resin sidewalls are identical to the kit I'm gonna leave it be. I'm thinking my only problem might be the wheel well but will tackle that when the time comes.

Yes the resin seats are a huge improvement. Same goes for the Hasegawa Tomcat and the Academy F4s which have great looking pits but the seats are weak in details.
