Posted by Anonymous on Monday, March 29, 2004 8:52 PM
I was wondering.... how good is Revell's 1/48 B-1 Bomber?

and do they make a 1/48 B-52?

Rev's B-1 - cant say but there's some reviews on Aircraft Resource Centre & Model Madness websites - havent done one myself (nowhere to put the box, let alone the finished kit - Big Smile [:D] just too big)

& a 1/48 B-52? - just keep dreaming (like the rest of us) - although I did see a while back a stratchbuilt B-52 being refuelled by a tanker, both in 1/48 in a mid-flight dio - i think it was from some yankee contest last year - anyone else remember this?

According to John W. Burns' Plastic Aircraft Kits of the Twentieth Century (and Beyond), the largest scale you're gonna get the B-52 in is 1/72. Academy, AMT (ESCI), and Monogram are the only manufacturers at this scale.

Current and Subsequent Projects:
1/48 scale Tamiya P-47 "Razorback" - Complete
1/48 scale Testors/Lone Star Models PT-22 Recruit - 20% Complete
1/48 scale Monogram C-47 Skytrain - Not Started

Ddayomaha, I got the B-1 box right here (no way to put it if I build it, so I'm gonna have to move Mischief [:-,]), and it's a pretty good model. It is huge and heavy, and I have read in several reviews that there are some hefty fit problems, but these can be overcome with a big file (or so I'm told). Interior detail is pretty good with a decent cockpit (considering you won't see a thing through that tinted canopy) and good bomb bay and wheel well detail. You can always improve on these areas, but the basics are sound enough. Oh, and you get rubber tires Sad [:(]. Surface detail is engraved, but not as subtle as recent 1/48 kits from Japan. If you look at it from a pounds-of-plastic-per -dollar perspective, you can't pass this one up anywaySmile [:)]. Oh, and get the aftermarket burner cans (can't remember who does those).

Here's a completed B-1B by Masa Narita, he's pretty darn good:

Check out the rest of his site: some awesome step-by-step builds of a Tiger and a 1/32 F-15E. Highly recommendedBow [bow]

hey ddayomaha;
I've built the Revellograms BONE a few times, it's a very large kit, and it's the only 1/48 scale kit of this beautiful bird, the interior has pretty good detail but you you want more then there is room for improvement, the kit comes as a SAC Bomber, but if you want an ACC Bomber then you need the After Market burner cans minus the "turkey feathers", and when you do build it take your time on mating the nose & tail fuselage sections to the mid-wing box fuselage section also don't I repeat DON'T put the landing gear on when told by the instructions, leave them off until you are done with building, painting & weathering, because I broke the mains off a few times on my first attempt and I learned my lesson,
