Allison Engined P-51 with 20-mm cannon
Posted by DaveB.inVa on Monday, March 29, 2004 10:40 PM
Hello all, I have a question about the P-51... like before the A model. Just the P-51 specifically the 20mm cannon equipped version. All the sites I use for reference, mainly the Baugher site, say that most P-51's went to Sicily, North Africa and Italy and that most P-51A's went to the China Burma India theater.

So my question is does anyone know for certain whether any P-51's with 20mm cannon were in the CBI?

If so do you have any sites or pictures of this aircraft. Im really wanting to build one of Accurate Miniatures P-51 with 20mm cannons, but I always want to build from the Pacific area.... mainly because thats where my Granddad fought.... I just want to build an aircraft that he might have seen!

Anyway thanks for your time and help.

David

Looked in my references, but all the pictures are in Tunisia, Italy and Alaska. No mention of CBI theatre.

Sorry David,
The only cannon armed versions I have ever seen were in the Med. Here are a couple of good sites.

A nice alternative for the CBI is one of the planes from the 1st Air Commando that had the 5 white diagonal stripes on the fuselage. That would be one your Grandad would probably remember.
