I happened to be talking to John Roll, of Roll Models, yesterday on another subject. I had tried to get the kit from him earlier, and he said he had just got ahold of one in case I still needed it (which I didn't).

I would love to see a model of the P&W R-2800 come out. It was the engine in a number of aircraft that my Air Force Dad flew during his career, and it also powered my Father-in-law's US Navy Corsair during WW2. - Mike Johnson

I would love to see them or someone else do a kit, in the same scale, of the -2800. I have read several claims that it was the best engine to come out of that era of engine development.

The Electra will go where my wife allows me to put it!!!! Seriously, it will go to a museum. The engine mounts that come with the kit will be used. I have a factory service manual and it is the guide to scale details including the worm gear retraction mechanism for the main landing gear. This Electra has been, and continues to be, a long drawn out process and I have accumulated a small library of information on this airplane, NR16020. The supply of various thicknesses of sheet plastic and various shaped plastic stock is massive and so is the supply of basswood used for carving shapes for vacuum forming. In anser to your question it is a static display model. I have done several stick and tissue balsa models and I have a scale J-3 Cub with a 6 foot wingspan that I fly when the urge hits me. The old RC addage is "if you fly it you will crash it". I cant stand to do that to a model I put so much time into so I prefer to build display models. I have been toying with the idea of a big Jenny and yours is an inspiration. There is a guy who did a 1:1 scale Jenny, but with some new and modern materials and it is amazing. Maybe Piper will do the Cub kit they talked about several years ago. Enjoy your P&W Build. It is a great old kit.

The Aircraft is a 1/8th scale Lockheed Electra Model 10E. The exposed engine will have in scale real nuts and bolt threads and heads thanks to rail road scale nuts and bolts. The brass fasteners are expensive but worth the "look". The aircraft plans are from Cleveland Model Plans and like Williams Brothers it has had a new owner for several years.

Wow, a 1:8 Electra! Will that be a hang from ceiling model, or a flying model? The new repop has a stand you can build as either a hang-on-wall or sit on table. I built my first Wasp as a hang on wall only, and it is hard to display it at shows, so I will make a combo stand that can either be hung on wall or set on table. I will not use the kit stand, though, since I like stands made from wood, stained and varnished.
1943Mike Don, Have you tried Flickr? I've tried both Postimage and Flickr and have settled on the latter. That, of course, doesn't mean it'll be around forever ... They both work in a similar (not exactly the same) manner.

I tried Flicker and a couple of others, with mixed results. Some folks could see pix, others not.
goldhammer That's good news, knew you had been wanting one. I know in your hands it will be a beaut. Did you ever find a cylinder for the other one you were looking for? Been a couple of years since you mentioned it.

I am one cylinder short for the Wright Cyclone (WB sold individual cylinders for RC folk). I was going to cast one making a mold from one of the ones I have, but a guy in our club is a better resin caster than I am, so I'm letting him cast one.

I will be starting the build pretty quickly now. In fact, in a way I have already begun. On my old build, I bought an RC propeller, wood, sawed the blades off at the hub and reshaped them to fit inside the kit hub. But I had merely painted the blades silver, and not the best job of finishing at that. I have become proficient in the use of polished aluminum Alclad, and want the blades to be highly polished. So I am refinishing the blades from the old model to use with the new one.
I would like to post pics, but with the possible demise of Postimage, I may have to look for a new hosting site!
Always wanted to build one too Don. Just ordered one.

Production News4/3/2018-Next run of 1/8 P&W Wasp detailed kit is in process!!We had some minor delays getting plastic, so that put us a bit behind. But, we are making parts and packaging them now, so after we clear out the big distributor back log, we should see the kit generally available again- most likely the week of April 9th they will be on our web store again.
That should be a very interesting a new forum ? Post some pics please.

I knew that new owners of Williams Bros had repopped their great 1:8 scale Wasp Jr R-985 kit awhile ago. I had built one about twenty years ago, and finally decided to do it again, now with Alclad and other things that weren't around then. But the run seemed to be sold out. Everyone I tried to order it from said no longer available, or back ordered and order would not take. Found Sporty's Pilot Shop had it advertised- it registered order (early March) and gave a suspected shipping day of 25 March. Early April came and I figured it was a lost cause, and that it was just not available. Then, Tuesday I got an email that it was shipped! It came today! That is a great kit for us airplane engine lovers.
