Old Tamiya Rufe
Posted by Theuns on Sunday, April 22, 2018 11:03 AM

I built this ancient Tamiya Nakajoma Rufe.

For a kit that came out in 1973 I was surprised at the level of detail and the recceced detail on the wings, granted the detail on the float and fuselage was raided and rather spartan.

Cockpit was quite nice.

The decals were very thick and took allot to get seated, I mixed my own "IJN grey" but in the pix it doesnt show the slight green hint it has.

I built that kit back in the 80's.  It is a really nice model and yours turned out great!

Thanks,

John

Super looking rufe! What kind of tool did you use to do the rivets?

Ta gents.

I used the trumpeter rivet tool, raelly nice bit of kit.

I didnt go mad with the paint chipping and weathering like we sometimes do on IJN craft, this plane was stationed at a flight test centre acording to the decal instructions and I think it would have been kept very clean.

Very good.  I can see the slight greenish tint on my computer and monitor.  Guess it just depends a lot on your monitor and video card.  Smile

Theuns,

First, nice job!

Second, how do you keep the rivet tool going in a straight line? Do you use tape or a straight edge, or a combination of both? With all the compound curves on an aircraft model I suppose it requires a steady hand and some sort of guide.

P.S. Are you a multilingual Dutchman?

Yup. 1/2 of my great grand parents are from Holland (town "Vuuren" ) and the other 1/2 from Scotland and England....so I am quite a mixed "breed" here in South Arica LOL

Mike I tried using some form of guide but the tool dosnt work so well with it. What I do is to mask out the rivetline with pencile and freehand the rivets on.

You need to press hard enough as you will not be able to go back and match the holes again.

Nice build, and lots of patience with the rivet tool. I've had this in my stash for years.
