Cuba was on the Ethiopian side. I always thought it was the other way around. I learned something. Definitely confusing

That is a great looking Mig 21 Grant. Top notch. Very interesting and overlooked  subject matter. I like it! Somalia had a very strong Military, as Africa goes, in the 70's. In the 60's the USSR pumped money in and Egypt Cuba follwed suit in the 70's. Somalia invaded Ethiopia in 1977 to try and take the Ogaden province. I think Cuba sent over a battalion that got heavily mauled.  Ethiopian forces pushed them back. Ethiopian F5's fought Somali Mig 21's. It was quite a bloody war. 

 

The Cubans entered on the side of Ethiopia.

Very nicely done! I will be building an Eduard MiG-21MF from the Nigerian Air Force. The camouflage scheme of the Somalian 21 is strikingly similar to the Nigerian. Only difference is the national insignia. And thank for the info on the pitot tube!

John It was called the Ogaden war. Somalia was a real power in the horn of Africa in the 70's. Losing that war sent them on a downward spiral to where they are now. The Ethiopian pilots were better trained and the F5's got the better of the MIG 21's. There's a book called Wings over Ogaden about it. 

Wow, I don't think I knew any of that.  I'll have to some history research.

A fine job

MRP is beautiful to spray, best paint I have used, but you need to go down to around 10-12psi, or you will waste paint. I have heard greens are very thin and hard to cover, but this one was no problems. Just remember it is lacquer and smelly, I'm not a total convert though, I still use Gunze and Tamiya, but MRP do some specialist colours

Looks great!  How did you like the MRP paint?  I just read a bit about them and am curious.  Airbrush ready is alwas a perk ;)
