That is cool. I would love to do one of those in 1/48 but as far as I know no one does one. I suppose we could scratch one up with two mustangs but that would be tricky.

Modelcraft did a few versions but from what I heard they were horrendous. And there is a lot of differences in a regular P-51 to a 82

Didn't know any still existed. Makes one wonder where the other 4 are. Thanks

BTW, the article below it is worth a read on the KC135 / F4 rescue/tow.

Yeah, tempestjohnny, according to Reilly, there are five common parts between the P-51 and the P-82. 483887 is the second prototype and when it goes to Oshkosh in July will be the only one flying. It is also the only Merlin powered Twin Mustang. The other two are later aircraft powered by Allison V-1710 engines.

As I understand, goldhammer, there are two other P/F-82s being restored. I think there is one being done by the CAF wing in Minneapolis and of course the F-82 at CAF headquarters in Texas. Both have Allison V-1710 engines.

Actually Frank, the CAF HQ F-82B was taken over by the USAF in a very bitter court battle, and then it was "restored" by them as a Korean War  G version.  They also have the original P-82B Merlin-powered record setter, "Betty Jo".

Thanks, richs26. I saw the CAF F-82 back in '78, when the CAF was still based in Harlingen, Texas. It was sitting up on blocks after having been crashed at an airshow. As I remember it was painted black. I hadn't heard about the CAF losing the airplane in a court battle. I probably saw "Betty Jo" in 1980 when I visited the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson, I just don't remember. Before that, the only P/F-82 I had ever seen was during basic training at Lackland. That was January/February 1967.

This is the F-82 at Lackland. When I saw this airplane back when I was in basic, I think it painted silver. It appears to be an Allison powered F-82.
