Mission models colors for P-40
Posted by Murphy's Law on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 7:26 AM

I am really wanting to try the mission models paints as I have heard nothing but good things about them. I plan to do Hasegawa’s 1/48 P-40E in Edward F. Rector, 76th FS, 23rd FG, China (July 1942) colors. Can someone give me the correct mission models colors to use?

The P-40E used Curtiss colors that did not quite match the RAF specs. That is for the ones painted in the RAF style camo, and not the basic Olive Drab 41 over Neutral Gray 43. At least according to Dana Bell’s research. Medium Green 42 matches the green. But the Earth color was lighter and sandier in tone than RAF Dark Earth. Undersides have been photographed in DuPont Sky Gray and an unidentified Pastel Blue. As far as Mission Models equivelants go, you will have to make an educated guess based off that info.
