If you are looking for an easy build, this took me 3 days, start to finish, and that's not going at it full time. It is so well engineered, everything just fits great.

OOB comes with 4 different schemes, and the other 3 options are your more traditional FAA and Navy schemes, but I liked this scheme as it was different, I'll do one of the other schemes next time.

Painted with Gunze acrylics for the main camo, also used Tamiya and Vallejo acrylic and Vallejo Metal colour, Flory dark dirt wash and MIG satin varnish

That's a beauty.  The yellow belly is striking.  What was the thought process of the RAF re that color on the underside?

Thanks,

John

This is Royal Navy as well, I am guessing that it is a trainer scheme,  but like I said, I am guessing

Yellow undersides are usually seen on RAF prototype and trainer aircraft. Often with some black diagonal striping as well.

That is a good looking build Grant. Well done.

The build looks good as always!  The underside color scheme definately offsets the aircraft as a whole.

Lovely job you've done there. Like the unusual scheme. My only thought, just to play devils advocate, is would that particular aircraft have carried external weapons if it was an early prototype (which seems most likely in those colours). Please prove me wrong!

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

You may be right, but my thinking is that it would be trainer, plus it adds some colour and extras to look at.........I don't follow the "rules", "it must be like this, or that isn't right". End of the day we all build to what we like, and everyone is different, and it is a hobby that is supposed to be enjoyable

Very nice build! Not a subject you see modeled often at all.

When I was much younger, I ended up with one of these birds as a desktop picture. I think the lines of it are beautiful. There weren’t really any options to build this in 1/48 scale until recently. I will need to get my hands on one!

Please don't feel that was intended as a criticism. Each to their own, and it looks really great regardless. As you say, it is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby, and you clearly enjoyed building this. Anyhow, even if it was a prototype aircraft, who knows, it might have been used for weapons installation trials!
