B-52 cammo question
Posted by ikar01 on Sunday, July 22, 2018 5:39 PM

even thugh I was around the B-52 D models during the war, I couildn't answer a question I got Saturday.  In effect the person wanted to know it the pattern on some "D" models had three greens.  I used to watch them go out on raids and return round the clock every day for a year and I never noticed.  I checked my copy of T.O. 1-1-4 and it shows tow seperate camoflage patterns but both only show two green colors.  I checked he potos I took of oru "D" models and saw nothing with the extra green.  I even checked the shots of the "G" models we got in durign the 1972 Easter Invasion just in case three might be a mixup but no luck.  It is possible tha I might have just missed the odd aircraft with thte extra green, we had a large number of 52s on the base.

Has anybody seen proof of this paint job?  The asker seemed to be really interested inthis one.

The tan used on B-52s (FS# 34201) was actually a bit green in tone, and not the same tan color (FS# 30219) used on everything else in SEA at the time. So technically, yes it was a green by its Federal Standard number code. And that would be a three green (by FS #) upper surface SAC Tan, SAC Green, and Dark Green over Black on a D.

Kind of a greenish-tan, I guess.
