Tamiya 1.48 Tomcat

I can't say enough nice things about this kit. Built it box stock from a Christmas gift from the Missus. Used the kit decals, almost went for the Bounty Hunters, but the "Final Countdown" movie sealed the deal. This is also my first try with Mr Color paints, and it's my new favorite brand, especially with the levelling thinner. Finally, I got a Pitt artist pen for the pull rings, not perfect (as I rushed it) but better than previous efforts. One thing this kit does, it shows my errors in a large way, anyway here's some pics:

Awesome build sir, gotta love the skull and crossbones. Fleets Finest Fighter.

As a side note, most of the fighter squadrons from the east coast have a black tails, well on the Hi Vis birds also the first letter of the tail code is usually "A".

Looks ready to splash a Zero or two.

Great looking build MV! I can only imagine how much of a pleasure that this kit was to put together.

No and yes to the above. Back in the full color markings days, VF-84 in their F-14s were quite unique in having a black tail. Pretty much every other squadron fleetwide had a gray or white base color tail, CAG Birds excepted. Even the other Carrier Air Wing 8 F-14 squadron, VF-41 Black Aces. A black ace of spades with a red diagonal stripe, with the air wing identifier AJ inside the spade.

Yes to Atlantic Fleet Carrier Air Wings having the A for the first letter. Pacific Fleet Carrier Air Wings have a N first letter.

Thanks, y'all! Stik, I admit that I found myself admiring the engineering in this kit as I built it. I pulled out the Monogram kit for comparison, as well as comparing it with the Academy build from last year. Wow, just wow!

When I post pictures of my builds and call attention to the errors, they can be seen. I don't see any here.

The build is boffo!

Thanks Stik, after I posted I got to thinking about it and your right, should have relied on research instead of limited memory LOL. In my defense I was a west coast Prowler guy LOL.

Still doesn't take anything away from MVs build.....now I wanna start mine.

MV I really like how you took the time to paint the flaps different from the fusalage great attention to detail.

No worries Armor. Now that I know you’re a Prowler guy, I’ll come to you with any questions when I build the one in my stash. Wink

And, no, I sure don’t want to take anything from this big beautiful ’cat. I just wish that I could afford one of these Tamiya ‘cats.

Mississippi,

Great job on the 14. Maybe it's my old eyes, but, I'm not seeing anything wrong with the build. Again, great job!

Thanks, y'all! TB, when they're parked, one nozzle will be closed, and the other one fully dilated. I haven't looked for the explanation, so I don't know why, but it's a cool look.

They would shut down one engine (nozzle closed), then shut down the remaining engine (nozzle open).  The second nozzle stayed open because there was no power remaining to close it.

For the F110 powered Tomcats (A+/B/D), both nozzles would hang open after shutdown, due to gravity.
