Does anyone know of any good books covering the P43 Lancer? Also, does anyone know if there are any survivors in a museum somewhere? I have a 1/48 kit which I have had forever, but I would rather get a bit more info before attempting it.

In the movie "God is my Co-pilot" Dennis Morgan "flies" one. Looked to be O.D. and neutral gray with 1942 national insignia. Or it could have been this:

In the book Scott mentions flying the P-43. He took it out one day and flew over Everest apparently on a whim which was easy for the P-43 with it's turbocharger, which pleased the British not one bit because they were still proud of their expedition to fly over Everest in Westland PV-3 and PV-6 biplanes in 1933.
The only books I have with anything on the P-43 are the old Squadron In Action on the P-47, which has a few pages in front on the P-43, and their Mini In Action on the P-36, which has a section in the end on the P-43 and which has more photos of the P-43 than the P-47 book.

Thanks guys. The poor old Lancer seems to be one of the forgotten aircraft of history!
Not much info is available on the P-43, and there doesn't appear to be any survivors available as nearly everything thing was scrapped or crashed during the war. An RAAF crash was located in 1958, but it doesn't appear it was salvaged. The EAA and the USAF Museum do not have one.
