USN Navy Blue Question

 Additionally, the instructions note the landing gear and wheel wells are the same color as the surface color. So does that mean the landing gear and wheel wells are gloss blue too? 

The actual color name is Sea Blue, not Navy Blue. Yes it is primarily glossy, with selected areas in “non specular” or flat along the fuselage spine and a few other upper surfaces. Yes the wheel wells and landing gear are also in Gloss Sea Blue, including the wheel hubs. Do an image search for F6F-5s for details. DO NOT RELY ON RESTORED WAR BIRDS for accuracy. Look for original WWII era photos.

I always thought it was called Dark Sea Blue. And always gloss.

Here is a little information about the color.... I’ll see what I can pull up about the gloss and flat in the overall blue scheme...

Model Master enamels made it FS 15042. I have two bottles since I think this is one of the discontinued FS colors. Shame if they did cause it goes on like glass when properly thinned.

Any old color photos of these colors are only a guide to get the color match as closer as possible.Computer matching helps a little.I have not seen a I.P.M.S. Color matching station in the U.S. or around the world.
