Seems to be the way with me.  Once I change my plans or buy something for too much money, a new product comes along.

If you get around to the B-52s during the war, watch out for the different green and the black should be gloss on the "D" model. There was also a reflective stripe on the outside of the wing tank from tip to tip that was broked in the middle for the last three numbers of the aircraft.

The "G" model used an entirely different set of colors compared to the "D".

Thanks guy's this really helps. Ok. would anyone know of any 1/48 F-105g wild weazel decals with the sharks teeth out there? I've tried all the decal websites i can think of and can't find any.

I just did a "what if" in Tamiya colors for the topsides and MM 4766 (acrylic) for the bottom...the Tamiya seems a little dark from my memories of working Phantoms back then.  The MM acrylic looks good to me.

 

Also in the Squadron Christmas flyer I noticed that Vallejo has come out with a Vietnam war scheme SEA set in the Model Air Line.  Hopefully thay are going to be a good match.  Going to order out a set to try out.

 

Thats why a few drops of white will lighten it. I have tried Vallejo Air and MMP and MMP sprays WAY better than Vallejo Air.

Tamiya XF19 with a couple of drops of white is a close match to FS 36622. MMP also makes it and is excellent paint. They have the complate SEA colors.

The FS36222 is a very light shade of grey, particularly in contrast to the relatively dark colors used on the upper surfaces. I was in the Air Force in SEA, and even in person the gray looked white to the eye unless you compared  it to something actually white.

There were some older sheets by Microscale/Superscale and Aeromaster out there. But they are long out of production. Aside from the Ultracast site, I would suggest eBay as a place to look and keep your search criteria basic like “1/48 f 105” or “1/48 thunderchief”.

This site has a few different sheets with the teeth but be aware, they want collector prices for some of them.  At the very least it will give you some specific info to help you in your search.  The exchange rate should help you as well.

The official specs called for the colors listed above, with Gray FS# 36622 being the predominant undersurface color. But there were some exceptions. Aircraft tasked with night ops, especially interdiction along the Ho Chi Minh trail, such as the B-57, AC-130, and B-26, has their undersides in Black, FS# 37038. The Combat Lancer F111As had their undersides in Green FS# 34079. The F-111s that flew in the Linebacker campaigns had their undersides in Black.

But...some of the early 12th TFW F-4Cs that went to SEA in their original scheme of Gray FS# 36440 over White in 1965 kept their White undersides and did not have them repainted into Gray FS# 36622 when camo began to be applied to tactical aircraft in theater. I’m not sure if the same held true for A-1s or T-28s in that same time period. 

Ditto the above. Those are the Federal Standard (FS) Color numbers and names used in the South East Asia camouflage paint scheme. The grey is a light grey but it is not white.

Grey, not white.  Here's what I have used:  30219 Dark Tan, 34102 Medium Green, 34079 Dark Green, and 36222 Camouflage Grey.  The Model Master numbers are 1742, 1713, 1710, and 1733.
