Revell Germany did it in 1/72, Don.  Kit 04321.

Thanks!

The Revell looks like it will be a good build.  I have it in the stash but haven't got around to assembly yet.  Good detail inside & out and has recessed panel lines.  The boxing I have also cames with the Texas ANG markings, and I belive Caracal released a sheet for the 101 with 111thFIS 147thFIG markings.

I plan on doing a Texas bird, one of the three "nose art" birds in the squadron - "Big Bird," " Batman" or "Boneyard Reject."  I'm still trying to ID their 101 which had a B-52 "kill" marking, something from William Tell I'm guessing.

Don,

Hasegawa and Valom also did/do the 101.  I have the Hasegawa RF-101C and it is very much a kit of the late '60s. Turns out Matchbox did one as well. I've heard the Revell/Germany is the one to get for the B.

Very nice!

Being an old MAC employee,  would like to build a collection of each MDC fighter aircraft.  The 101 is the last kit I am looking for.  Did anyone every kit it in 1:72?

Really nice work on this F-101. I'm glad you put it on a tarmac.

the monogram cockpit is totally  different from the real F-101 B.Also the canopy on the Kittyhawk is exact. The kitty hawk cockpit has at least the correct side walls and correct cockpit dials And throttle assemblies.Aftermarket soon will be coming out for the kitty hawk kits.In my younger days I have flown the F-101 B/c versions.to me both models are great and can be improved.Note:The F-101’s I was in had no large raised panned lines.

Great job on yours.I have one of my own.Now it’s time to part and retire the monogram/Revell F-101B.Kittyhawk 1/48 is the new one in town who will carry the legacy for the F-101 family.Again , great job on yours. Now a true collectors item.

I have to disagree. The kitty hawk kit may have better surface detail, but in their typical fashion, other areas of the kit are. Big let down. The canopy shapes are terribly squashed and the windscreen frames are the wrong style. The Monogram cockpit detail blows the kitty hawk out of the water. Kitty hawk also didn’t notice the bulkhead between the front one rear cockpit should incorporate clear windows. There are more sink marks in the Kittyhaw kit then there is flash on the Monogram kit... I feel there is still a place for the old Monogram kit...

Thanks for posting this learmech. I've been thinking about adding this kit to my stash along with the F-100. I have the F-102 (thanks, Col. Canyon) I'll be starting in a while. I like these Century Series fighters. They have a look and style that we don't get in modern stealth aircraft. And Jeaton, thanks for the heads up on the one piece intake part. I'll follow your procedure whenever I get around to building an F-101.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Very nice!

I'm convinced the fit problems on this kit are in large part caused by the way they tried to fit the inner intake parts as one part.  I cut the center join out of that and the wing to fuselage parts fit issues went away for the most part.

Wonderful "One-oh-One-oh-Wonder!"

The 111th had the best fin flash of any US unit - IMHO.

Nice 101.  Great to see an OOB approach to a model, because well, this is all you had to work with.  No PE, no custom decals, just a nice clean model and guesss what? it looks like a real airplane.  You did great job.

Thanks Nathan. My biggest issue was the wing root gaps. On the upper surface, there was easily a 3/32" gap on both sides. filled with sprue rod and Tamiya extra thin clue with lots of sanding ad filling.

Beautiful! Love the shiny finish. I’m building the same kit now but definitely not out of box, did a rescribe job and closed the airbrakes and flaps. Big mistakes as they don’t fit at all! I’m jealous o the way your intakes turned out. Mine fought me all the way and look a little mis-matched.

Ibuilt this about mid last year. When Revell USA Died, Our local IPMS chapter had a RIP Monogram build contest. You could build any true Monogram kit. The build had to be OOB. This one had been sitting on my shelf for about 15 years or so. Through out the years I would take it off the shelf and tell myself, I need to build this, then back on the shelf it would go. Our club contest was the perfect reason to dust off the box and get started. Hope you enjoy.
