1/32 lancaster

This kit is not worthy of a 300 dollar pice tag, the multi part fuselage is in need of a lot of putty..HK failed on this one.......a short run kit with a lot of needs, take your time and be prepared to brake lose previous parts and refit for a good fit...BUT I have the 1/32 liberator in waiting

I'll check on this when mine arrives.

Can you post pictures please. As a statement like this without pictures is pretty meaningless and could put off other buyers without proof.

Was thinking the same thing! That kit would have close to a 38 1/2” wingspan!  

Pfft... Wing Nuts is supposed to be better. Yeah that's a biiiiiiig bomber kit. $300 is expected for a 1/32 bomber kit. Wing Nuts will be much more.

Before you start bashing HK Models's kit and comparing it to Wingnut Wings Lancaster - which isn't even available yet, you need to know a couple of things, which I learned by speaking to Wingnut at Scale Model World show last November.

HK's kit has a complete interior and this first release has a clear fuselage to enable you to show off all the detail as well as the normal styrene sides.

Wingnut's Lanc does not have a complete interior and has detail around the rear door entry, cockpit and bomb aimers position.

Also, HK has 4 Merlins to put in. They are basic build stuff which will enable the builder to enhance to their own desire, or for AM companies to put out upgrade sets.  I think Wingnut only has 1 engine.

HK's kit is available now, Wingnut's should be around November this year.

when my Lancaster arrives I will do a complete photo of the kit and sprues and report for you all and to give you all a good look at what is in the kit.

We all have our favourite kit manufacturers, for which, in some eyes, can do no wrong. The Lancaster is very much an iconic aircraft which most manufacturers have one in their line-up, even two of different scales and of various accuracy. These two kits in 1/32 are huge and not everyone will have the room or the money to build one but we should still look at each kit and judge it on it's own merits and the manufacturers research and design implementation.

Let's not judge on hearsay, but as a large scale builder myself, I am excited at the offerings from quality manufacturers such as Tamiya, HK, Wingnut, ZM etc as the different subjects offered from single engine to 4 engine plus. The down side(s) are price and somewhere to display them!

What makes me cross is that some manufacturers do not provide an RRP instead leaving it up to the importer to decide and that, here in the UK, has meant that the unscrupulous importer has set an unreasonable high price for the released Lancaster which will affect sales and has upset the manufacturer.

I am looking forwards to the Lancaster arriving, building it and also yo what AM producers will do!

I agree with Snapdragonxxx, let’s not judge to quickly a new kit of this scale. Give us some pictures Razorbacks if you found something wrong with this kit.

Few aircraft model builders have ever had the experience of working directly with a manufacture to bring a new product to market. Like all manufactured products there is a process to follow and part of that process involves objective feedback; subjective opinions are not very useful.

I have been waiting for 5 years like every one else. I am not saying its a difficult build, just have your putty handy..JEEEEEEZ. you pros are needy.

Every body hates me because I said plenty of putty, just now getting to installing the bomb load...its a great kit

So far a great kit, just have your putty handy thats all, would buy another one. Expect this kit to sell for over 450 on Ebay in the near future, get it while you can at the 350 price tag

I am not bashing this kit, bite your tounge, I have seen experts pick apart first time modelers with in ear shot. you GD pros need to get over yourselves and spread the wealth of Knowledge. My next kit is the 1/3Liberator in waiting

I think eveyone just wants to see some pictures of what you're talking about. That's a lot of money to spend on a kit, and if you have some pictures that identify problems, it would just make peoples decisions to buy easier.

Personally, I'd love to try something that large but would just have no place to put it. I just saw a pic of the 1/48 Tamiya kit and that thing is huge. Can't imagine a 1/32 version.

Still no photos of the issue of a badly fitting fuselage although you say it is a great kit.

Contrary to your statement I am not a professional modeller but regard myself as a talented amateur who has learned many things in the 40-odd years of building and have devised the mantra "Dry fit many times, glue once" and regularly get through a mountain of masking tape of many widths during the dry fit and painting processes.

I have no idea of your skill set or how you approach a build like this as it is a complex one and you have not posted any pictures or asked for help or advice from other community members who might be able to help.

for those reading this and would like to build this kit but don't have the room to display it, yes it's huge with a wingspan just under 1 metre, but, like the B-17, the wings are removeable which means that you can bring it out and put it together for guests to look at and then take it apart and put it away.

Alternatively you can put your build skills to the test and build yourself a custom cabinet getting your stuff from local hardware shops which will save you money rather than getting one made.

If you make the cabinet 1 metre by 80cm then most if not all 1/32 bombers should fit in and provide provision for multiple shelves with the ability to alter the height to accommodate aircraft that might have a greater height than others and mirror shelves and LED lighting from IKEA or other retailers then you can put quite a few large aircraft in there, not only the large bombers.

Please put up some photos and let the community help you with this iconic aircraft!

Pat, I am not a professional modeler of the type we are talking about in FineScale Modeling forums. I am however, a retired building designer, working 55-years in manufacturing and construction. In that capacity I have built many models of buildings and engineered structures. My comments were intended to point out that without pictures showing examples of what you found any discussion about the need for ‘lots of putty‘ leaves members following your progress with the impression there is something wrong with this new release.

Objectivity with regard to a major build like this is what we want from you and you are in a unique position to provide that kind of feedback. I am particularly interested in your work on this model because I fully intend to build the same model in memory of my Uncle who was the Flying Officer pilot of Avro Lancaster Mk III, BP633 P4 for the Royal Air Force during World War II. Please keep us posted on your progress, it is very interesting to me and other WWII aircraft enthusiast. Needy we are - but only in a constructive way with regard to this model and your progress.

Calm down!

Everyone here in my experience is interested in what you have to say and would very much appreciate specifics and photos when it comes down to a kit with some issues. Many of us would like to learn what you're experiencing building this kit and, if we can be of any help with constructive suggestions, would gladly offer them. After all you did say:

I think we'd just like to see your WIP or at least some photos posted of the shortcomings of the kit as you've experienced them so far. We'd also like to see how nice the kit is overall.
