SB2U-3 Vindicator, BuNo. 2088, VMSB-241, Captain Richard Fleming (Medal Of Honour Winner Posthumously for the Battle Of Midway), Miway Island, 4th June, 1942This is a re-box by Academy of the Accurate Miniatures kit (2005). A few fit issues in the cockpit and externally, mainly the fuselage bottom piece that fits in from back of wings, down to tail. So some modifications inside the cockpit to get things to fit, and plasticard and filler for the fuselage bottom section. This camo is done with Mission Models paint, my first use of this paint, must say that this brand of paint has some great colours in their range, especially some WWII US Navy colours.Tamiya, Vallejo acrylics also used, Vallejo metal colours, oil paint wash inside the cockpit and Flory Dark Dirt wash on the outside. Vallejo Matte Varnish for final coat.
Wow that turned out great. Really looks sharp. I was a big fan of accurate miniatures.
Thanks,
John
That's a beautiful build. I wasn't even aware that Vindicators saw action at Midway, so I had to do some research and learn about it.
Thanks for posting the pics of your beautiful model, and prompting me to learn more about this plane. May have to build one in the future.
Cheers,Mark

A club I belong to meets at an airport- Fleming Field. There is a display case in the office building that the club has populated with models of WW2 navy aircraft, along with info of Fleming.
Very nice model!

Those colors are very impressive. Really nice model. AM is missed.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Really nice build. Now I know there is this kit out there, I might do one as a Chesapeake.

Very cool Grant! I did this kit but a differernt variant I believe some years back. I'm pretty sure it was my first foray into modeling aircraft and I did it with a rattle can. I used actual athletic tape around the fuselage aft of the cockpit. =]
You make this look very nice. Those Model Master colors are working quite well right there. Making me a little jealous...=] I'd been thinking about trying to find this kit and giving it a better shot but it does carry a pretty price tag. I think you're twisting my arm though.
Kudos!
Tamiya F4U-1 Kenneth Walsh
I don't think it's to hard to find the Academy kit, plenty on Ebay, paints were Mission Models bud, not model master
Grant Dalzell I don't think it's to hard to find the Academy kit, plenty on Ebay, paints were Mission Models bud, not model master
Mission Model!! That's what I meant of course. Sorry, I've got a toddler next to me while I type.
I've seen Lawdog talk about these before. They seem really nice.
Nice job on your Vindicator.
