This 1:48 offering is molded in silver, really shiney beautiful silver. I am not painting this except for details of course. However, when finished, do you still apply future before devcals or is the surface such that it does not require future. The only downside to this finish is the scratching and the white spots that occur when sprues are cut. I don't know how to avoid except t come back with a silver paint for touch up. However, it will look touched up.

You apparently have the plated version of Tamiya's Mig 15. Iv'e avoided their plated releases as they are very difficult to finish. There is the problem you mention, but the bigger problem is filling seams which is impossible without destroying the plated surfaces. Never having tried one, I can't help too much, except to suggest Model Master Chrome Silver enamel for touch up as it will come a little closer to matching the plated surface. As far as the decals go, I don't think Future would be needed on the plated surfaces.

You can strip the chrome plating off with Castrol Super Clean or Simple Green. Just soak a little and maybe srrub the hard to get spots with an old tooth brush. That's what I had to do, as the seams on the chrome were impossible to work without destroying the surrounding areas.

I like the chrome plating, I am trying to be very careful. It is an awesome looking model and actually a typical Tamiya model, goes together extremely well as you would expect.

Alclad II will also work great in touching up the seems. In general I avoid the chrome plating. Too bright.
