To get back to the original subject,

I  think that one of these should do the MIG nicely

https://www.hmhobbies.co.uk/mrp-049-light-gray-blue-modern-russian-interior-colour-30ml.html

https://www.hmhobbies.co.uk/mrp-290-cockpit-light-blue-mig-29-smt-9-19-russian-af-30ml.html

We will see which is closer to the Eduard set!

Hi Svenne

Although my main paint is Vallejo I do dip into other brands if there is a colour I need. Vallejo's RAF stuff will make Airfix's big Tiffy look fantastic and rather than use the decals on that big bird I would recommend using masks for the insignia and a mix of MRP and Vallejo paints, such as their marking red, Yellow and Oxford blue and Vallejo's insignia white and for the squadron codes Vallejo Sky.

MRP takes some shaking to get it mixed properly in the bottle, so get some AK stainless steel ball shakers. I put them in all my bottles.

The above photo is of MRP RAF insignia paints. I am going to go back to the blue and have a better look. The decals are from HK's Lancaster set by cartograf and are correct. The wing roundes blue is BS 105 Oxford Blue as it matches to my eyes the paint but the roundels on the fuselage sides and the block insignia on the tail seems to be a darker blue so I am goingto try Vallejo insignia blue and see how it looks. The other blue in the photo is MRP -124  "RAF WWII Marking Blue". I am going to go back to that one and try again.

On big kits painting the insignia is always better than dealing with very large and unco-operative decals.

For the Typhoon this set should help you very much

Remember that you are not limited to one paint manufacturer and I dip into AK XTreme metals, Vallejo Metal Colour, Vallejo model air (primary source) and AK colour for stuff that is not referenced in the Vallejo range. Tamiya X-13 Metal blue is just right for Japanese Aotake and I paint that with paint brushes rather than try and mess about spraying it. Although Vallejo, AK and lifecolour have an aotake blue, green or both in their ranges they are unconvincing as the colour.

My Shinden build so far has used Vallejo Metal Colour, AK Xtreme Metal Tamiya and Vallejo model air plus AK blue-black Japanese anti-glare. There has been no issues with the paints and all seem to be happy with each other.

Hi James,

I have recently switched over from Tamiya to Vallejo but I allways wanted to try the MRP range.

Have the required set for the big Tiffy but will get myself a set from their rage as well to make a comparsion.

Good luck with your competition builds!

Thanks Svenne,

I am not sure when I will get round to the MIG as I have programmed in a couple of armour builds for a competition on a different forum. These builds will be posted on here in the armour forum too as I am sure that those following will not want to miss them.

I am, at this moment, building Zoukei-Muras very first release, their J7W1 Shinden which I hope you are looking in on.

MRP (Mr. Paint from Slovakia) has the interior MIG 29 colour which I will be using.

Hi James,
I have been trying to find a good match for the interior color for some time now, have Eduard's MIG 21 and ICM's MIG 25 in the lineup

Finally settled for the mig offering A.MIG-223 which is a very close match to Eduard's MIG-21 PE set.

Looking forward to see how you get on with this, allways enjoy your build log's.

mig to the left, home brew right.

Very Best Regards
Svenne

Thanks for the info guys. I have a lead for the cockpit colour and the stencil decals in the kit are very comprehensive. I am going to order Vallejo's Mig 29 paint set and look at masks for national markings.

I think that I will go with Eduards MIG 29 A set for the cockpit and the kit includes nose weight and metal undercart.

I haven't done many jets but I think that once I do my due diligence and make cunning but simple plans then I think it could be a nice build.

I will probably take the colour from Eduards set for the cockpit and probably look in the Akah paint range, although Mr. Paint (MRP) had the interior colour in I think, and from using both paints, MRP is the better quality.

Trumpeters 1/32 aircraft kits can, at times, be hit and miss affairs, but I think they are starting to get their act together with growing competition from ZM, Tamiya and HK models etc.

This can only be good for we builders but we may suffer a little pocket bashing as development costs will go up and those will be passed on to we builders and of course certain unscrupulus importers and distributors will further hike prices to make more money So it is important to shop around.

Still, this can only be good for the hobby as kits continue to improve in detail, fit etc.  give us better experiences for our dosh and the end result of stunning builds!

Once I have finished the Shinden and the competition builds then I will probably dine into this.... Much fun is anticipate!

John that is a great piece of work.  I finally got to the place where l wasn't crashing every weekend, but I dont know how I would feel taking off with that masterpiece in the cockpit! Proud and terrified I suppose.

Thanks,

John

James,

To be honest, I don't think there was much difference between the cockpits of the A and C, so I would say pick the set you think looks best and go with it. As for paints, if you can find them, Model Master did modern Russian colors in enamels. For acrylics, you can try Vallejo or AKAN. For decals (and AKAN paint) try www.lindenhillimports.com  They offer decals for an Iraqi Mig-29 in their 1/32 scale decals and Begemot decals also has decals for several Mig-29s.  Hope this helps.

Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.

MIG 29 C help
Posted by snapdragonxxx on Saturday, April 20, 2019 8:52 AM

Hi Guys,

Just arrived and into the stash is Trumpeters' 1/32 MIG 29C (03224).

Does anyone know which of Eduards sets, especially for the cockpit, will fit this as there doesn't seem to be anything for the C variant in their range.

I have Vallejos Mig 29 paint set on the way to me too.

Any help such as cockpit interior colour plus AM update sets, FOD covers decal sets would be more than helpful as this is the first Russian aircraft I have done.

One good thing and this is that the kit comes with a nose weight!

Thanks in advance of any input
