There are a few minor differences in the parts.  A bombardier's seat and a more accurate bombsight were added later on.  The newest one has the ProModeler crew figures.

The only changes made to the Monogram Liberator kits are that the later releases of the D and J kits include the parts changed for the Pro Modeler D release- crew figures for in the aircraft interior, and “weighted” tires. The new kits will likely have better decals, because the decals that were being put out by Monogram in the late 70’s and early 80’s were pretty weak

I built one of those last year. It was a fun build. However, there are a few issues. You can see how I handled them in the following posts.

KitsWorld makes a really nice set of decals for a B-24J.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Yep, as Mississippivol says, it's the same kit, regardless of the boxing.  I will second what he says, that you might find signs of mold wear with later releases.  If I were buying one now, I would look for the original boxing, which featured an in-action painting of the Liberator in natural metal finish.  You might find one that still has Shep Paine's "Tips on Building Dioramas" brochure, too.  But I would hold out for one for thirty bucks or less.  You can find one, if you can wait.

You might still find one on the shelves at a store, though, too, as retailers run out of stock produced before Hobbico went bankrupt last year and interrupted Revell-Monogram production.  I have seen them at some of the craft stores, like Michael's and HobbyLobby.

Depending on the boxing, I do think there were different decal sheets included.

Hi, Ryan. The short answer is yes, they are all from the same mold. That being said, there can be some variations in fit, warpage of parts, flash on the sprues, due to the age and condition of the mold when the plastic was molded, or by how it was stored by the previous owners. Decals can be an issue, but there are some stellar aftermarket decals that are worth the money.

All The Monogram/Revell 1/48 B-24J Releases Are The Same?

Hello. I wish to build a 1/48 B-24J and present it to my elderly, WWII veteran father. It has been many decades since I've built a model, and never made a truely beautiful model like many of you build.

I do see these Monogram B-24J Liberators for sale ... with different box art. Are they all the same kit? No improvements were made through the years? They just differ in the included decal sheet?

Also, might I have a problems applying the old decals included in the box?

Thanks, Ryan Soriano, Lake Hopatcong NJ
