Lancaster Decals
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 3:43 PM
My cousin's husband was the airframe fitter on the Lancaster S - Sugar on display in the RAF Museum, Hendon, London. This year sees his eightieth birthday and I would like to make him a model. Does anyone know of a set of decals (1/72) for S-Sugar - 'No enemy Plane Will Fly Over The Reich Territory'. I believe Airfix produced this version many years ago. Can anyone help me on this?
Many thanks
Ramon Wilson.

hi Ramon. revell did his aircraft many years ago but i belive it is still available (i bought one last year). unfortunatly i am also going to do S-SUGAR too so i need the decals but you may be able to get them from revell tho they will probably charge for them.
hope this helps.

Can I suggest you use the Airfix Lancaster in any event - it is the better of the two. You can also try and get the decals from Revell (in Hemel Hempstead - 01442 250130) but they will need the kit number. They make a charge I belive of £5.00 regardless and th item comes from Germany - it takes about three weeks. Hannants may have some in old stock of course but it does not seem that this A/c was catered for in the decal range for some time. Hannants also do of course some of the extra bits - etched brass etc. - however from experience you can probably make most of the bits yourself. The SAM Data file is excellent but can add to the cost. It depends how far you want to go. Otherwise I think there is now ready made version by Corgi perhaps?? (not sure).

i agree with miduppergunner about using the airfix Lanc but make sure its the newer one and not the early one as thats almost as bad as the revell one. the only other 1/72 Lanc kits out there are i belive Matchbox and frog (tho the frog one is very rare now).

Thanks 'gregers' and 'miduppergunner'. Despite a really good search before asking for help I've just found PO-S on a sheet in the hannants catalogue. I live just six miles from the warehouse so thats where I'm off in the morning. Many thanks for your help I will bear your advice in mind.
Regards - Ramon

Lucky you Ramon - we frequently stay on Norfolk (near Holt) and a trip to Hannants is of course a must. Alladins cave etc. I would be most interested to hear how you get on with the model - if you need some pics I may be able to help. Let me know - I have a pics of the u/c, nose area (not PO - S) and a rear turrett for example, taken at East Kirkby and Hendon.
