Who makes Corsair and Wildcat with folding wings?
Posted by castelnuovo on Friday, June 21, 2019 12:01 AM

Looking for kits in 1:48 of F4U Corsair and F6F Wildcat with good details and wings that can be put in folded positions.

Many thanks for suggestions Smile

Tamiya’s F4Us have a folded wing option.

F6F is the Hellcat, F4F is the Wildcat. On the Wildcat, only the -4 and FM1/2 versions had folding wings. No joy on any out of box 1/48 F4F kits with a wingfold option. Aside from the ancient Monogram kit, and that one is lacking in so many ways...

The 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1 Corsair has wings that can be posed in the folded position.

If you do mean F6F Hellcat there are no modern kits in 1/48 that have folded wing options but Wolfpack makes nice resin conversions for both the Eduard and Hasegawa kits.  If you just want a model for an uncritical audience then the old Monogram kit has folding wings.

There are a couple of resin folded wing conversion kits for the 1/48 Tamiya kit.

Aries I think, and Wolfpack. You can find one or the other for $ 55 ish online. I've seen one built up and it came out nicely.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Oops, my fault. It is the F6F Hellcat I am looking for. Thanks for the responses, gentlemen Smile

I’m pretty sure that the Hobbyboss 1/48 Hellcats offer a folded wing build option.

I don't care for the shape of the Hobbyboss fuselage, it's very much out of shape just like the Trumpeter 1/32 kit of the F6F.  Too fond of the Hellcat to accept that.

I saw an online article where a guy grafted the Hobbyboss wings onto an Eduard kit for the folded wing option. It required a bit of surgery, but worked. The Hasegawa kit supposedly is a better candidate for that due to less surgery being involved.
