Which Tamiya grey colors would look good on a C-17A Globemaster?

Hi All,

Currently, I have put on a first coat of Tamiya XF-53, Neutral Gray on my Revell 1/144 c-17.

Any suggestions on which Tamiya grey colors would look really neat on this aircraft?

Looking forward to the color discussion as I'd like to build this kit too.  Sorry for the tangent, but how is the kit going together?

Thanks,

John

Neutral Gray XF-53 would be my first choice. It is far darker than the FS color by that same name. And also a good substitute for the AMC Gray used on Airlifters and Tankers since the 90s. Light Sea Gray XF-25 would be another suggestion.

Find out which FS colors it's supposed to be, then use this conversion chart.

How do I find out which FS colors a C-17 uses?

A Google search for "C-17 FS Colors" turns up some helpful pages.

Google is your friend. But there are some great sites to bookmark for future reference. IPMS Stockholm is one. Cybermodeler also has good paint scheme reference section as well.

But post Desert Storm, almost all USAF strategic and tactical airlifters and tankers have been painted AMC (Air Mobility Command) Gray, FS# 36173. The main exceptions from this paint scheme are Special Ops, Medevac, and VIP types.
