Think ahead

Stupid mistake number 3043. After many hours and agonizing work on my Eduard 1/72 Sopwith Schneider, with a #80 bit, really tiny PE parts, and invisible thread, (I lost my invisible thread once and couldn't find it anywhere.) I finally finished rigging all the strut and control lines. So as I look with pride on this mini beast I realize that I forgot to place the decals first. There is no way decals can be placed after the lines are in place. Right now I am considering saveral options all of which involve fire.

Once did a 1/32 Revell F4U and after getting it put together, went to put stuffing in the cockpit and get ready to paint and realized I'd left out the instrument panel. Boy did I feel sheepish!

sorry to hear your problem pal.
Maybe you could put it aside for a while and when you
feel better and come back to it and do what you gotta do.
Also a few ideas might pop into your head too while you are waiting.

Ouch.

Really though, nobody will notice that there aren't decals unless you tell them. I'd bet just about anyone you show will be just as impressed, decals or no.

Sorry to hear of your predicament. Is there any way you could turn it into a dio, with a painting crew about to apply the markings?
If nothing else, you now posess the confidence to rig a small-scale aircraft. There is accomplishment there.

Yeh! Jimi Hendrix did that fire thing, don't forget the lighter fluid. Seriously though, sorry to hear that, I hate it when things like that happen. Those Eduard kits are supposed to be pretty good, I've been thinking of getting the 1/48 Sopwith Camel "Profi Pack" to add to the "Build Pile".

Maybe you could use it in a small diorama where some ground crew are adding insignia to the fuselage etc. but haven't gotten to the wing area yet? Even in real life the whole plane couldn't have been done all in one go. It could make an interesting dio without trashing your plane.

I think Pix and Snowy have stumbled onto the best solution to the problem.

Maybe not quite as satisfying as fire, but I think it's do-able.
