Great job on the P-47, Grant!! Excellent!! I especially love the display base! Where did you get it? Or, is this something that you created yourself?

Thanks Gary, the base is from Coastal Kits, they are in the UK, you can get them on Ebay, or from their website, they have heaps of different ones

1/48 Hasegawa P-47D - "Saucy Susie"

I love P-47's, what a huge beast (to really see how big they are, I sat it next to a Bf-109, they look like different scales) having recently built the Tamiya P-47, now the Hasegawa, I would say the Tamiya kit was better, but there's not a lot in it.

Metal work is AK Xtreme, I just used Tamiya Semi Gloss Black as the base, as after all this was an aircraft in action, not a showbird, although it is still very shiny.

I painted the tail colours, invasion stripes and the res nose work, as there was no way Hasegawa decals would have set as nice as paint work looks. I just cut out the "Saucy Susie" decal to fit in.
I used Mr Mark Softer to set the decals, it seems to work well on Hasegawa decals, (I tried Agama Hypersol....that's a big no-no on bare metal paints, eats right through it)

And I used AK Gauzy for gloss, as I have found when using Mr Hobby Super Clear III on AK Xtreme Metal, it eats through the metal colour a bit and I see hints of the black primer (I imagine it's the thinners, not the clear, but super clear III need heavily thinned)

The P-47 looks great in metal finish, or camo, I can't decide which I like better.
