It's official:

I built the Encore boxing of the Roden kit, and can honestly say it was not fun. There were a lot of stupid things which needed fixing, and it was just not enjoyable despite the model being relatively simple. I was able to source a Cutting Edge decal sheet for Richthofen's tripes, which was one of the few highlights of the build. Okay, okay, the resin engine was really sweet, but the rest of the resin parts were all too small due to shrinkage.
I took this model to an IPMS Nats in a shoebox in a partially finished state. I had to attach the landing gear in the hotel room, and promptly broke and lost some teeny parts in the carpet. I wasn't able to find one of the gun charging handle knobs so I hope nobody noticed. One of the lifting hoops at the rear of the fuselage also came loose and disappeared into the carpet, so I ended up "borrowing" some sprue from a friend's vendor room find, heat stretched it (I have NO recollection where I got a lighter or match), and painted it red using a modified business card turned makeshift paint brush!
Anyway, that's all in the past. I look forward to see how nice the WNW Fokker Dr.I will be! I still have leftover decals for Richthofen's partially red tripe, so if WNW is their ususally coy self, they will initially release either the F.I version or the Dr.I without any "Red Baron" markings. But I'll be ready.
