Very nicely done Theuns, really like the chipped paint! Just right without being overdone!

This Kate is now done except for needing to matt clearcoat the wheels.
I tried preshading the pannels for the alclad but I am not sure if I actually like the effect or not. Granred it does break up the mono tone look but it may look "wrong" to me.
As for weathering, I didnt go mad , just enough to look used.

Recently bought that kit. Looking forward to building it. Great job!

She's looking really good. I find masking the canopy a motivator. I means I'm getting ready to paint, and that's a good thing.

This model has been taunting me for a few weeks and I need to complete it now ,but finding the energy to do so is lacking badly. The thought of masking the canopy frame just brakes my moe-joe.
Anyhow I will beat it into submition still LOL
Basically yes. I used black gloss and sprayed about 3-4 coats of airframe alluminium over the whole thing to get a dark alluminium look. Then I sprayed more alclad onto the areas I wanted to highlight, maybe another 3 coats in total.
The last was an aclad coat over the whole thing to tie it all together.
So cool! Nice job on the aluminium. Just to ask your method on the paint application, have you just used the black for your ground and reverse shaded by continuously applying the aluminium to the areas you wished to highlight?

I painted the tail and fuselage band red

Then gloss alclad black as a base

Then alclad airframe alluminium untill I had a nice dark allu look. After this I used the standard black basing to give shading and modulation to the final alclad.

nkm1416@info.com.ph Nice going on that Airfix Kate. I still have the Hasegawa Kate which I bought in 1995 Looks like it can hold on its own against new-tooled kits.

That's the kit I had. It will hold up to the current standards. Beautiful kit. I miss that one.

Theres something you dont see everyday! Im on board. Of course the green looks good to.
Interior colour looks good! I look foward to your progress. Ahhh metal finish Kate would be cool.... can you find photos again?
I had a Hasagawa kit that had the silver with mottled green and I adored that kit back in the day.
I just finished my P-40B and I'm really impressed by how these Airfix kits turn out.
I'm going to have to get this kit.
Nice work, Theun!
I got this little airfix Kate 1/72 on saturday afternnon at out IPMS meet.
The detail is exelent for this scale but allot of it will be lost when the fuselage is closed up :-(
The build was started late Sunday morning and by last night I had the fuselage and wing assembly all glued up ready to sand! Goes really fast.

I anm stil undecided on the colours, the kit shows an all over IJN grey with green mottle and a standard green top grey bottom. I have however seen an early Kate in all over bare metal I really like, I might have to cheat with the colors LOL
