A change of pace - Doyusha T-6G Texan
Posted by Real G on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 5:24 PM

I picked this up to help me out of my model rut:

I believe this is a rebox of a Hobby Boss "easy kit", the ones with one piece fuselages and wings designed for speedy construction.  If  can't finish this in short time, I am beyond help.

Although the subject and format of the kit are not my usual thing, the Texan has a personal connection in that my uncle learned how to fly in one of these when he joined the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF).  He told me the noise and vibration were terrific!  The next time I visit him I plan on giving him the finished model mounted on a base and with a case.

Hi,

Cool.  Good luck with your build.

Well that "should" be an easy one, but we all know how that can go. Cool subject. I'll be watching.

Basic rules for myself:

- OOTB

- No PE

- No resin

- No super detailing

Hey, the box top photo shows the real plane with a bucketload of antennae...  Does anyone know why a little trainer would have an antenna farm?  Maybe I should not ask; that’s how the rabbit hole opens up and swallows me whole.

I was going to save this for a New Year's Eve build, but it was just too tempting.  Weak minds and all that.  Embarrassed

The engine is somewhat, er... lacking.  I know they could have done better.  But it will be used anyway.

The pitot tube got bent during shipping, so it will be replaced with metal tubing and wire.

I know I said no detailing, but this is both a repair and seam cleaning time saver.  The cockpit tub lacks instrument panels, but I might put in some pilots to fill the empty space.

There is one fit issue that will require attention.

A shim will fix it.

I kept forgetting that this was not a snap fit kit.  I guess Bandai has spoiled me. Keeping the build simple means that I won't be adding all those antennae.  I have to dial it back to keep the blood pressure low.
