Revell B1-B Platinum Edition 1/48th. Anyone going to build it?
Posted by Wilbur Wright on Sunday, December 22, 2019 12:59 PM

I just recently saw that Revell re-released this big kit.  I have been collecting aftermarket parts over the years in anticipation of this, although I don't know when I would get to it.

Anyone else going to attempt this kit, has anyone bought it yet?

I've got one in the stash but no immediate plans of building it.  Pretty impressed with the amount of aftermarket goodies it comes with!

I was gonna add it to the stash, but I haven't found one in stock anywhere. I can hang it beside my SR-71 when they are both done.

Does this mean Revell is back?

I'm confused.

Oh, ya,

They are up and running, I just don't think they have US operations now. They have updated and added bits to some of thier kits and are releasing them. The B1 is back in 1/48 with updates and some PE. Hard to find still though.

That's great to hear. I found the end of Revell/Monogram to be depressing as I'm sure a lot of us did.

Thanks for the encouraging news, Brandon.

Revell is now a totally European company. They bought most of the recent tooling items, and will make new kits going forward. As mentioned, they do not have a dedicated US operation as of now. Could change in the future. Any tooling they did not acquire in the Hobbico collapse was bought by Atlantis Models, who have been steadily releasing the older Revell, Monogram, Renwal, and Aurora items the new Euro owners turned their noses up at.

I have built one Atlantis kit and found it very satisfactory.  Bought another which is now in my stash.  The molding was pretty crisp.

I recently saw models by Atlantis at Hobby Lobby. I never saw that brand until recently. Now I know why.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

What's so platinum about it? The description here sounds like the same old beast.

If there's no major upgrade, I'd save my shelf space.

That site's description is garbage, like many others that copy and pasted the same thing. The kit has some extensive etch for the engines and cockpit, some of it pre painted, for example. The plastic is exactly the same as it was, of course.

That being the case, I'll save my money.

I’m not really sure why anyone would expect the plastic to be different. Making changes to the mold, especially on one of the largest injection molded kits ever, would never be cheap, or very practical.

Just received this model from Scale Hobbyist.  They are in stock for anyone looking.

Probably start it this summer.   I have the Sniper pod and need to get an accurate pylon for that.  Will also order the resin exhausts from Barracuda.

I wish there was an accurate Gunship Grey in acrylic, without mixing it.

I just went and looked at it, and its really impressive, just cringe at the price tag, plus at 1/48 its gotta be pretty large
